ACTS 1:1-8 (
NRSV)
1 In the first book, Theophilus, I wroteabout all that Jesus did and taught from thebeginning2 until the day when he wastaken up to heaven, after givinginstructions through the Holy Spirit to theapostles whom he had chosen. 3 After hissuffering he presented himself alive tothem by many convincing proofs, appearing to them during forty days andspeaking about the kingdom of God.4While staying with them, he ordered themnot to leave Jerusalem, but to wait there forthe promise of the Father. "This," he said,"is what you have heard from me;5 forJohn baptized with water, but you will bebaptized with the Holy Spirit not manydays from now."6 So when they hadcome together, they asked him, "Lord, isthis the time when you will restore thekingdom to Israel?" 7 He replied, "It is notfor you to know the times or periods thatthe Father has set by his own authority.8 But you will receive power when theHoly Spirit has come upon you; and youwill be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in allJudea and Samaria, and to the ends of theearth."----------------------------------------
