Common Cents Rental Sells, Rents
Repairs Outdoor Equipment
Common Cents Rental Inc. is
approaching its ffth anniversary with new
offerings that take the lawn equipment
rental, repair and sales business into the
fourth season of outdoor maintenance.
The family company, which opened
in 2009, carries major equipment brands,
including Echo, Grasshopper, Husqvarna,
Hustler Turf, Redmax, Tanaka, Toro and
Shindaiwa. It recently added Fisher Snow
Plows to its line of sales and repair.
Bryan and Jennifer Ficken acquired the
rental equipment business fve years ago
from the retiring previous owner. It was a
good ft because Bryan Ficken has worked
in lawn and garden his whole life. So it
was only natural to add a lawn and garden
component to the business, building on
the base of his longstanding
customers.
Customers can rent a wide
range of lawn and power
equipment, including air tools,
aerators, backhoes, chain saws,
concrete tools, drain snakes,
fooring tools, pallet forks, skids,
welders and now snow plows.
As for the lawn and garden aspect, we
have many years in the feld, Jennifer
Ficken said. Bryan originally worked on
mowers out of our back yard and grew
from there.
In the past fve years, we have grown
leaps and bounds because of wonderful
customers who have recommended us, she
said.
The customers appreciate that Common
Cents prices are fair and realistic and that
the rental equipment is in very good shape,
Ficken said.
Jennifer Ficken gets the most
satisfaction in her job from customers
being pleased with our work, friendliness
and willingness to work with them, she
said. I enjoy talking to customers.
Although summer may yet
bring some hot days, fall and
winter are just around the corner.
Keep us in mind for aerator
rental and seed, as well as salt
and snow plows, Ficken said.

since 1982 and is still owned and operated by
the Brewer family: Dan, Linda, Mike and

Dan said. When you enter our showroom, you

At Brewers, there are no high pressure
sales tactics used, no tricks or gimmicks such
as free this and free that, and no inflated prices
to then offer huge discounts.
We still run our business the same as when
we opened our doors 32 years ago, Dan said.
We treat every customer with honesty and
respect, have competitive prices, professional
installation and are the best in our industry with
customer service and satisfaction.
Even though customers have probably seen
Brewers ads throughout the years, the compa-

Shop Sugar Magnolia For The Perfect
Bra & Specialty Lingerie
Sugar Magnolia Boutique, Webster
Groves specialty lingerie and bra shop,
features custom-fit bras and offers lounge-
wear, intimates, bridal, burlesque and
maternity lingerie, as well as hosiery, jew-
elry, soaps and candles.
I have always loved lingerie, but after
15 years of marriage and three children, I
didnt even recognize my own body, said
shop owner Lisa Davis.
Left frustrated by the lack of options
and the difficulty in locating a proper-fit-
ting bra, Davis founded Sugar Magnolia in
February 2012. The goal was a unique
specialty shop that provides a personal
experience, as well as an array of sizes.
Were trying to fill the void between a
boring bra shop and a swanky adult store,
Davis said.
Owner Davis, Carrie
Dalton and Ellen Mazur
make up Sugar Magnolias
team. While Davis has a
true passion for lingerie,
Dalton brings a fresh cre-
ative flair to the store and
Mazur has a real keen eye
for detail.
We are changing the way women feel
about themselves, one bra at a time,
Davis said.
Recent research showed that about 80
percent of women are wearing the wrong
bra size. An ill-fitting bra can cause neck,
back and shoulder pain.
At Sugar Magnolia, you will be fitted
by one of our specialists and given the
knowledge to help you understand why a
great fitting bra is so important for every
woman no matter her size, Davis said,
Customers say they love the array of
bra sizes from cup sizes AA to N and band
sizes from 28 to 50. The shop also carries
lacy, silky, risqu and romantic styles, plus
special made-in-the-shop garters.
Whether youre seeking the perfect
gift, a custom special
order, space for a party, or
a basic everyday bra, you
can expect a comfortable,
highly personalized shop-
ping experience at Sugar
Magnolia, Davis said.

Rib City Pits Its Slow-Cooking
Barbecue Against Competition
Rib City St. Louis BBQ serves
barbecued baby back and St. Louis-style
ribs, 18-ounce pork steaks, chicken, turkey
and beef, along with salads, sides and
homemade desserts.
We felt that St. Louis didnt have
many good BBQ restaurants, said Gregg
Matthes, who has operated Rib City
franchises with Gary Frossard and Bill
Shocklee since 2008. We never heard
anyone talk about barbecue. We knew
we had a good product and a full menu to
cover everyones tastes.
Rib City relocated from its original Des
Peres location to the current space in 2014.
There has been a surge in BBQ
restaurants over the past couple of years,
Matthes said. Many of them are very
good, but well stand up to any of them.
Plus, our restaurant is
more of a family-style
restaurant atmosphere.
Rib City has sit-down
tables, a full bar and
televisions.
Customers may be
surprised to know how
long ribs must be cooked.
It takes several hours every day of
slow cooking to properly make ribs and
other pork dishes, Matthes said. Its not
like home, where men time their grilling by
how many beers theyve had.
All meats are cooked in wood-
burning smokers, basted with Rib Citys
signature barbecue sauce and smoked over
hardwoods, including red oak.
Matthes gets a laugh when he meets a
customer who has never had or heard of a
pork steak, a Midwest specialty.
If they try one, they love it, he added.
Customers tell the staff they love the
baked beans and cole slaw, which are
made in-house daily. If they have one of
the homemade coconut cream, key lime or
pecan pie desserts, you can see their faces
light up, Matthes
said.
The Rib City staff
includes manager
Jesse Matthes, Gregg
Matthes daughter,
and assistant manager
Karingus Belton.

Indulge Taste Buds With Lunch & Bread
From Great Harvest Bread Co.
Its not unusual for customers to pur-
chase loaves of bread after stopping in for
lunch at Great Harvest Bread Company.
And thats exactly what owners Tom and
Judy Honigfort had in mind when they
opened their bakery in 2011.
We arent a restaurant, Tom
Honigfort explains. But we serve lunch
daily to showcase our bread.
The August salad special, for example,
features heirloom tomatoes purchased
from Kirkwood Farmers Market, and is
served with a hearty slice of whole grain
spinach feta or cracked pepper Swiss
bread, two of the specialty breads featured
on the bakerys August bake schedule.
These mouth-watering breads are just
a few of the bakery items Great Harvest
prepares daily. It also sells other
breads from Honey Wheat to
Whole Grain Apple
Cinnamon Swirl. Tempting
cookies, scones, muffins
and bars are also on the
menu. Lunch is served
Monday through Saturday to
showcase the fabulous bread.
The staff mills wheat daily on a ham-
mer mill onsite and bakes it into breads
and sweets within 48 hours.
Great Harvest is a great resource for
health-conscious consumers because our
breads and baked goods contain no addi-
tives, preservatives or dough condition-
ers, said Judy Honigfort, who has owned
the bakery with her husband, Tom, since
May 2011.
We derive the most satisfaction from
our business being located in downtown
Kirkwood, she said. A certain buzz fills
the air downtown, especially on beautiful
days. The shops are diverse and eclectic,
other store owners are extremely
supportive, and almost every customer
walks into our bakery with a smile
already on his or her face.
I credit that to the atmo-
sphere that downtown shop-
ping provides. That, and
they know they are about to
taste some pretty amazing
bread, she added.

For Wrought Iron Restoration,
Call Liberty Sandblasting
When wrought iron property gets old
and weathered, its time to call in Liberty
Sandblasting Inc. for restoration.
Owner Frank Waters started the busi-
ness in 1974 and moved the shop to the
current location in Fenton 28 years ago.
He got his start restoring wrought iron
patio furniture and railings, then went on
to work for the U.S. Army, Navy and Air
Force, as well as Missouri Botanical
Garden, Boeing, various country clubs and
restaurants.
Now, his restoration company provides
sandblasting and painting services for a
wide range of customers. Waters gets assis-
tance from employees John Riffel and Scott
Moser, who have been with the company
for 27 years and Justin Seikmeier who has
been with them for a coulple of years.
The most common projects this time of
year are iron patio furniture, but Liberty
restores and paints iron railings, trailers,
auto parts, antiques, dune buggies, race car
chassis and more. The company recently
completed 140 feet of iron railing for the
Grand Avenue MetroLink station and a
large solar project for GE in Nevada.
All the work is done in the shop, then
shipped or delivered to the customer.
Since 1974, the technology in blast
cleaning has advanced and the quality of
paint products has improved, Waters said.
Regardless of the condition of an item
when it comes into the shop, anything we
do to it makes it look better and last lon-
ger, he said.
He gets satisfaction from his work
when people see the end result of what
we have done for them and hearing their
satisfaction. Weve had many compliments
in letters and emails expressing the satis-
faction with the service we provided.
