PAROS PARK:
A cohesive area with different uses and functions.
The central target of the Design is the preservation of the largest part of the peninsula as a pure area of Island
Nature and the concentration of recreation, soft sports and culture - an infrastructure on a specific part of the

The peninsula and bay of Ai YannisDetis are an ideal area for the creation of a Model Island Park. Contact with
For the sea part of the Ai Yannis bay our target is to border the anchorage and the part where the motor ves-
the island nature, acquaintance with the local history, summer relaxationon the beach, soft sports, and en-

The fulfillment of these targets has led to the discrimination of use and functional areas: Area for the Protection
The creation of the Park was based on a thorough plan, with technically complete designs, designation of use

Restoration of Biodiversity
The intensive grazing of goats and sheep for decades stripped the peninsula of its vegetation. After the creation
of the Park in 2009 and the end of grazing, nature itself, despite poor rainfall, the long summer and its seaside
location, undertook the task of its own restoration.

fragrances, borne by the winds. Day after day, the landscape changes, giving a variety of impressions strokes
then into small yellow-white lilies (Romulea) that decorate endless meadows, and then into the precious blue
of lupines and the small skyblue pimpernel (Anagallis).Heather, wild orchids, amaranth, penny royal, capers, mandrake, wild violet, wild chicory, lupines, mallow, dandelions, white thyme, golden thistle (Scolymus), globe thistle (Carduus), sweet pea, tordyllium, and mustard are some of the areas plants.
Planting
here has been annual planting of indigenous plants from Parian nurseries and the SA company of Milos, undertaken
by Parian schools and volunteers.
In 2010, a pilot program was applied which involves surface sowing with soil lumps containing a variety of seeds for
the creation of proper shrubbery for the root system of trees.
In 2012 a program of planting was applied for the creation of small groves of trees in selected areas according to the
specialized map drawn by botanist G. Sfikas. Saplings were bought from nurseries with the aid of the Green Fund.
The overall programming for the zone of nature includes works for the restoration of the biodiversity and the landscape,
repairing damage caused by the long intensive grazing, hunting, and the opening of rough paths. There are also small
irrigation works to channel surface water, pedestrianisation of the old road to Faros (the light house), and the annual
planting by schoolchildren and volunteers.

Cyclades Cycle
Three neighboring Festivals, in Naxos, Paros and Tinos, which have been organizing successful events in recent years, have joined forces in order to enhance the place of the Cyclades in the contemporary cultural map.
The venues of outstanding beauty of the three Festivals, with their special atmosphere, inspire artists and audience, and offer them unforgettable experiences.
The Cycladic Cycle participates in the ambitious program of cultural cooperation organized by the
French Institute "Greece-France Alliance", honoring the numerous communities of French people living in
or visiting our islands, supporting Greece at a critical time.
Cine Enastron
"... In the open air cinema Enastron at Paros Park, it is not mandatory to watch the movie. You can let yourself be absorbed by the much more interesting astral night landscape and the sea breeze . But as much as
you may get absorbed by the true magic of the landscape, some sound, some glimpse at the magic of the
film, will sometime captivate again your eyes on the screen. What we are trying to keep in the shelter of the
screen, is a small antidote to the summer noise of the island."

In 1770, right after the first uprising of the Greeks against the Ottoman yoke, the Russians installed a nautical
base in Naoussa Bay. Although important for Paros, this period remains little studied; hundreds of Russian ships
moored here from 1770 to 1774, and fort systems, administration buildings and living space to house more than
10.000 people were created. In the peninsula and the Ai-Yannis bay visible traces of this occupation are still evident.
The permanent exhibition in the Ai-Yannis monastery cells, coveringthe themes War and Peace in the Aegean, the
18th century, the Orlov Period and Greek shipping, highlightsthe historical site itself and its particular history in
Paros and the peninsula. With sponsorship of the Levendis Foundation historical and museum studies have been carried out by a team of Greek and Russian historical researchers, while with the sponsorship of the Niarchos Foundation the traditional cell complex has been transformed into a modern museum space.

THE AI-YANNIS BAY
A sea area without north winds and with turquoise waters.
The small bay of Ai-Yannis, protected from the winds, is a vital sea area of the Park, with calm waters in
turqoise hues. The peninsula protects the Bay from the strong north winds and makes it one of the best natural moorings in the Cyclades. It is not accidental that nowadays yachts moor here, and centuries ago warships used to moor peopled by those who aspired to dominate the Agean: Venetians, Turks, Russians and a
variety of pirates.
The Park, in order to ensure the bathers safety and to avoid the danger of uncontrolled pollution, has proposed designated zones for yachts, motor boats, and sea sports and co-operated with the Scientific Team
of Patras University for the scanning of the Naousa Bays seabed and the recording of its biodiversity, so that
measures and regulations can be proposed.
SHIPYARDS
The aesthetic and enviromental upgrading of the shipyards is also programmed in accordance with ecological practices.

Favorable Balances and the Covering of All its Economic Obligations without State or Municipal Subsidy
Paros Park Municipal SA, functioning from 2009 as a SocitAnonyme whose single shareholder is the Paros Municipality, is not subsidized for its functioning and activities by the Municipality or the State; it has yearly favorable balances and fulfills all its obligations on time. Its income derives only from the cantine and the beach, and
this is invested in small works, the maintenance of infrastructure, the Parks cleanliness, and it supports the Festival and athletic and ecological activities.

Every project and activity in the Park is a collaborative effort by donors who financially supported the project, experts who offered
their knowledge and experience, and a large network of friends and volunteers.
We especially thank those sponsors who have financially supported the creation of the Park, not only for their donations but also
because they believed in this difficult task ahead.
Special thanks are due to the Association of Friends of the Park, especially members of the administration, which from the first year
of its creation supported all the varied aspects of the operation.

The Park was born from the vision of a group of persons who are today its bodyguards. It soon attracted many ardent friends in
support of activities. Most importantly, citizens and friends of friends joined the network and volunteered knowledge, experience,
and time as volunteers.
Consequently, Paros Park is rich not only in infrastructure and activities theater, trails, the festival, the museum - but also in people and relationships.
There is always a core of people who bear the greatest load on acomplex project such as the creation and operation of the Paros
Park.
