Mackenzie Clark English 111 BLMatthew WeinkamDecember 10, 2009Reflection Paper – Rhetorical AnalysisReflecting on my rhetorical analysis paper, I found many things that could have beenfixed and were ineffective. In my opinion, the biggest problem in my paper was lack of a strongargument. I did use rhetoric like I was supposed to, but I feel like it was not very convincing. Inmy first final draft, my rhetoric was atrocious. It was not strong at all and was not usedcorrectly. So, in my revision, I used the same quotes, but explained them in a way that madethem more connected to the rhetoric that I was describing. As a result, the rewrite is what reallyhelped me learn what rhetoric was. After I got the first copy back, I re-read it and found that itactually was not convincing at all and I knew I could do better. So in my rewrite, I focused onwhat rhetoric was and how each quote was an example of it, or at least give better descriptionsthan I had in my initial final copy. One thing I still do not know is what kairos are. Through this paper, I obviously learnedwhat pathos, ethos and logos are and how to use them effectively, but I did not include the fourthrhetorical device, kairos, because I do not understand what they are. I tried researching them andasking people, but I just cannot seem to grasp the idea.If I was given the chance to rewrite this paper, I would start by adding in a strong thesisstatement. Like my ethnography, not even a bad thesis is present. Even though I did not have athesis statement, my claims were much stronger than they were in my ethnography. Althoughthere was nothing to tie the claims to (since there was no thesis), I clearly stated “the centralclaim is…” for both of the main body paragraphs. So, while the claims are strong, if I added in athesis statement, I would have to alter the claims just a little in order to connect them to the
