It is often said thatchildhood is the best periodin one’s life. Most of us havevery pleasant memories ofour childhood. Playing withyour friends in gay abandon, rushing back home andyelling” I am hungry” and yourmother rushing to feed you, learning new things in schoolevery day, the tension ofstudies before the examsand the euphoria thereafter, the feelings of achievementand adulation of parents andteachers upon getting goodgrades and the pranks whichone played with schoolfriends. But above all it wasthe feeling of security, ofbeing cared for and noworries except that ofexcelling in studies andsports. But all the childrenare not so lucky. Many ofthem eatonly once aday, lackproperclothes andsome donot haveanyone tocare forthem. Theystruggle forsurvivaleveryday, are exposed to abuse, bothemotional and physical, at avery tender age and haveonly themselves to fendagainst the cruel world

A devotee objected to people going to Baba fortemporal benefit e.g., employment, money, children, cure of disease.SAI BABA: Do not do that, My men first come to me onaccount of that only. They get their heart’s desire fulfilled;and comfortably placed in life, they then follow me andprogress further.I bring my men to me from long distances under manypleas. I seek them and bring them to me. They do notcome (of their own accord). I bring them to me.However distance – even thousands of miles away - mypeople might be, I draw them to myself, just as we pullbird to us with a string tied to their foot.(From Baba’s Charters and Sayings)

On his advice hestarted chanting the name ofSai Baba whole heartedly.Within a year Shri Prasadwas blessed with a son. ShriPrasad gave me a copy of“Shri Sai Satcharitra” toread. I went through thebook and returned it, heobserved that I was notassured of Sai Baba’smiraculous powers, he thanasked me to sincerely tellBaba about my worries. In 1976-77 to meet thefamily demands, I had takena scheme. On completionof scheme I would have gotreward of Rs.25000/- and toachieve the target onlytwenty five days remained. Iwas worried as it wasalmost impossible toachieve the target. I boweddown with all respect toBaba’s feet earnestly. Hisways are not known how Hecares for His children, whocome to Him with devotion. Igot what I wished for. When I returned homeand asked her how she felt? She said that she wasenjoying a blissful feeling.I had no idea then thatBaba would send me backto my village Nakronda inDistt DehraDun,Uttarakhand. In 1999 I tookvoluntary retirement fromONGC. In Nakronda villagewe all brothers have someland and a good part of it issituated on Gulhar Ghattiroad prominently. During our marchto help the underprivilegedchildren by bringing themback to school we, in DiyaFoundation, have comeacross a great member oftragic cases where thechildren suffered for no faultof theirs. It was on theintervention by DiyaFoundation that the joys ofchildhood were broughtback to them. Here are some of thoseuntold stories which havebeen penned not to seeksympathy but to make thereaders aware as to howfate sometimes plays crueland how constructivehuman intervention fromaffluent sections of thesociety brings back joys oflife to these tender souls. This is story of a little boynamed Goldy. He was justsix years old when his fatherdied in a tragic accident.Suddenly life changedcompletely for him and hismother Neetu. His grandparents turned their backupon their son’s bereavedfamily, refusing them anysupport and assistance.Out of desperation,Neetu turned to her brotherfor shelter and support. Here, too, both of them weretreated as outcasts as aburden and a liability. Her survival instinct ledNeetu to take upemployment as an ‘Asha’worker with ‘Balwadi’, a socialservice organization. Hercompensation was a mereRs.500/- per month.Obviously, it was not a salarythat could ensure that Goldywent to school. But then sheheard of the Diya VidyaMandir, a school run by theDiya Foundation.Today, Goldy is beingprovided both free educationand medical care. In addition, the family is being offered freerations under the Food forHungry Programme run bythe Foundation.Life changes for those whoseek and try. And becauseGod has a heart of gold thatoverflows with compassion.A child's life is so sensitivethat if not ditected properly inthe right path it can lead todisastrous.Diya Foundation is doing itsbit to support theseunderprivileged children. Weall can join hands with DiyaFoundation for lighting upmore lives by giving ourcontribution. Devotees Experience
OM SAI RAM. On the 7th ofJune 2008, we had thelaunch of our high fashiongarments boutique“Samaira” at Malad inMumbai. The president ofthe local cable TV networkMr. Paresh was also a guestat the event and at the sametime he was covering theevent to air it on the localcable network. He knew thatmy family and I are Saidevotees, so he had boughta Sai Baba idol as a gift forus on the occasion of thelaunch of the boutique. He had gift wrapped theidol. But due topreoccupation with coveringthe event, he forgot to bringthe Sai Baba idol for us. Afew days later he even calledmy sister Vinita to informabout the gift but did notmention what the gift was.Nobody other than his wifeknew that there was a SaiBaba idol gift wrapped forthe owners of the boutique, kept at his house. Again, dueto busy schedules Pareshforgot to bring the Sai Babaidol to us.On 29th of July 2008,Tuesday afternoon asParesh’s father was asleepin his house he had a dreamin which he heard the doorbell ringing and on openingthe door he saw Sri Sai Babastanding giving darshan.Baba asked him why haveyou kept me closed inside abox? Take me to my childrenfor whom you have broughtme. Immediately then thetelephone bell rang and he(Paresh’s father) woke up.He ran towards the maingate of his house and thencalled his entire family andasked them where is SaiBaba? He narrated hisdream to his familymembers and they were allwondering when and howhave they closed and keptBaba in a box? ThenPareshs’s wife after thinkingfor a while, suddenly realisedthat the gift for the boutiqueis a Sai Baba idol packed andgift wrapped in a box.Everyone in their family wasastonished to see that gift.Pareshs’s father got darshanof Sri Sai Baba and Sri SaiBaba blessed my entirefamily by coming into ourlives and home. We receivedthe idol from them and thenperformed puja and abhishekof Baba on His arrival.Sai Baba is on “JagritSamadhi” and iscontinuously showering Hislove and blessings to Hisdevotees and to the world. He takes care of all Hisdevotees all the time. Thiswas His biggest leela for meand my family and we gotblessed. Just by surrenderingcompletely to Sai andfollowing his two divinewords Shradha Saburi we willcome closer and closer toour Perfect Master, ourSadguru, our God, Sri SaiBaba of Shirdi.Sri Sachidanand SadguruSainath Maharaj Ki Jai.

Kakasaheb Dixit has pub-lished his notes regardingnecessity of Guru. Next dayafter Hemadpant’s meetingwith Sai Baba, Kakasahebwent to Baba and askedwhether he should leaveShirdi. Baba Said, "Yes".Then someone asked -"Baba, where to go?" Babasaid, "High up." Then theman said, "How is the way?"Baba said, "There are manyways leading there; there isone way also from here(Shirdi). The way is difficult. There are tigers and wolvesin the jungles on the way." I(Kakasaheb) asked - "ButBaba, what if we take a guidewith us?" Baba answered, -"Then there is no difficulty. The guide will take youstraight to your destination, avoiding wolves, tigers andditches etc. On the way. Ifthere be no guide, there isthe danger of your being lostin the jungles or falling intoditches." Mr. Dabholkar waspresent on this occasionand he thought that this wasthe answer Baba gave to thequestion whether Guru wasa necessity and he thereupontook the hint that no discus-sion of the problem, whetherman is free or bound, is ofany use in spiritual matters, but that on the contrary realParamartha is possible onlyas the result of the teachingsof the Guru, as is illustratedin this chapter of the originalwork in the instances of greatAvatars like Rama andKrishna, who had to submitthemselves to their Gurus,Vasishtha and Sandipani re-spectively, for getting self-realization and that the onlyvirtues necessary for suchprogress are faith and pa-tience.
