Making Connections
The Book of Exodus in the Old Testament tells us
a very beautiful story of friendship between God
and the Israelites. It also tells the story of Moses,
the journey of the Israelites out of Egypt, and
ultimately, the giving of the Ten Commandments.
The Ten Commandments is
the beginning of a new life for
the Israelite people. It also
marks the beginning of a
beautiful relationship between
them and God. God started
and strengthened a beautiful
friendship - covenant - with
His people, the Israelites.

Understanding the Ten
Commandments
1. The Ten Commandments reveal who God is.
God gave the Ten Commandments to help the
people understand what He wants for them.
God used the Ten Commandments to reveal
or show them that He is truly a God.
2. The Ten Commandments were given during
a time of liberation/ freedom.
The Israelites were free from the Egyptians.
No more slaves. God gave the Ten
Commandments as sets of laws that can help
them become a better nation and a holy
community.
Understanding the Ten
Commandments
3. The Ten Commandments were given as
part of a covenant with God.
A covenant is a special agreement between human
beings or with God that involves life-long commitment,
faithfulness, and love.

God made a covenant with the Israelites, His Chosen
People.
