Abingdons Treasures: Friends of the Abingdon Library Friends of Harford County Public Library is a non-profit group of volunteer citizens, in the community, with a common concern for the librarys active expansion and participation in community life. They enrich the resources of the library by sponsoring book sales, fund-raising, and programming. Friends bring additional talent, expertise, volunteer support, and financial support to their community libraries. There are eleven Friends of the Library groups in Harford County and each group advocates & raises funds on behalf of their specific branch.

Abingdon Friends of Harford County Public Library have a common interest in the vitality of their library. They share a passion for libraries and a desire to support them in day-to-day activities and in future initiatives.
The Abingdon Friends bring additional talent, expertise, volunteer support, and financial support to the library. They advocate and fundraise to help the Abingdon Branch enhance the programs and services provided to the residents of Harford County. This supports the librarys mission of providing information and promoting the love of reading within the community.
Abingdon Friends in Action:
The Abingdon Friends have contributed thousands of dollars to support the Abingdon Branch. Some examples include: Conducting yard sales and raffles to support library programs and the purchase of special materials and equipment. Supporting services and facilities for the community. Funding the Winter Reading program.

Healthy Harford, coalition of local government agencies, businesses, non-profits and citizens dedicated to improving the health of Harford County residents, will once again host Healthy Harford Day on Saturday, September 27, 2014, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at 119 South Hays Street, next to the Bel Air Farmers Market.

The Bureau of Highways Engineering is a major division within the Department of Public Works. Its responsibilities are to provide engineering design and technical support for roadway and bridge projects throughout Harford County.
In addition, the Bureau of Highways Engineering provides the review/design and subsequent approval of subdivision/related roadways, traffic analysis, including but not limited to intersection improvements, future roads, speed studies, traffic calming measures, storm drains, and bridge facilities, which when completed, become part of the Harford County infrastructure. Pleasantville Road at Little Gunpowder Falls Closes Temporarily From Harford County Government:
Pleasantville Road at Little Gunpowder Falls will close to traffic during the day from 9:00am to 2:30pm for approximately two weeks. The closure begins on Tuesday, September 16, 2014. The work will include various repairs to the deck and abutments.
Please make other arrangements if you travel on this road. If you have any questions or need more information, call Dan Svrjcek with the Harford County Department of Public Works at 410-638-3545 ext. 1392.

Emmorton Recreation Chess Club The Club starts its Fall season on September 19 with a Quick Chess tournament. All are welcome as there are sections for both USCF rated and non-rated players. The tournament will be held at the Emmorton Recreation center, 2213 Old Emmorton Road, Bel Air, MD Registration is from 6:45 to 7:00 pm.

Patriot Ride September 11, 2014 8:00am-1:00pm Starting at Chesapeake Harley Davidson, 4600 Thunder Ct. Darlington - Ends at McAvoy's, 2531 Putty Hill Ave. Parkville. Registration begins at 8am for the 3rd annual 9/11 Patriot Day Ride in remembrance of the lives lost on 9/11 and to honor those who went off to war to keep us safe and to protect our freedoms. Hundreds of motorcyclist will take to the streets as they continue to keep the promise to never forget 9/11. The ride will travel south down Rt1 to Harford Rd and end on Putty Hill Ave in Parkville where they will ride through the Path of Honor. The "Path" is 2,977 American flags that represent each life lost on 9/11. The event will feature six moments of silence beginning at 8:46am, Patriotic music, the Pledge of Allegiance, and National Anthem before riders depart at 10:45am. All riders, bikes, clubs and non-riders are welcome. Fees are $15 for driver and $10 for passengers; proceeds benefit the Flight 93 National Memorial and the Catch A Lift Fund.
