at lie expectancy has increaseddramatically over the last ewdecades, due to care rom theirhuman owners and advancement inveterinary medicine. Nowadays a catis old when it reaches its 10th birth-day. Ater 10 years the aging processbegins. Even the most playul kittywill grow old but with some attentionrom you, a cat oten reaches 15 to 20years old.As they grow older, cats lose theirhearing ability. This can sometimes gounnoticed as the owners sometimesconuse the lack o response o theircat with simple stubbornness. But i your older cat is not coming to youwhen you call it, it can be because ithas lost the sense o hearing. When a cat gets older, it is best tokeep it inside as it can also lose itssense o smell and vision. This meansthe cat will be vulnerable to dogson the street, cars and other cats. I your cat loves resh air and likes togo outside, then it would be best tosupervise him or her outside. Also, as cats get older, their sense o taste and smell will diminish, makingthem less interested in eating. In thiscase, you need to give the cat moistood or you can also try warmingthe meals. This way the scent will beamplied and the cat will be morelikely to eat. The moist ood will alsoincrease the amount o water that isin the cat’s diet and preventdehydration romoccurring.Always keepresh water avail-able and monitordrinking habits. The thirst drivecan also ade withage and a cat caneasily becomedehydrated. I youdo not see your cat getting water, talk to the vet or some other solutions.I upon researching the conditiono your cat online, you come acrossrecommended medications, do notbuy them unless you talk rst to yourvet. Medications have side eectsand only a trained veterinarian canaccurately prescribe them ater care-ully analyzing the status o your cat’shealth.Older cats can also develop difcul-ties in swallowing. A cat can lose itsteeth and its gums can turn white. The most recent studies show thatolder cats have a problem with thepotassium. This results in poor urcoat, lethargy and loss o appetite.Low potassium levels are detrimental
