Always wear your seat belt when driving and insist that your passengers wear a seat belt, too.Wearing a seat belt by all vehicle occupants is required not only in Saudi Aramco facilities andcommunities but also all over the Kingdom.
Never use illegal substances. Read the labels on all prescription medication for warnings; consultyou physician about how your medications or over-the-counter drugs could affect your driving.Never drive if your medication can make you sleepy or drowsy.
Never exceed the posted speed limit. Under ideal weather and road conditions, always maintain thelegal speed limit. Drive under the speed limit if conditions are not ideal.
To maintain a safe distance between you and the car ahead, keep a following distance of at leasttwo seconds. Add one second for each adverse driving condition such as bad weather.
Expect other drivers to make mistakes at intersections. Four preventative rules to follow are:1.
When approaching a green light, be prepared for it to turn red. It may have been green fora long time.2.
When stopped at a red light and it turns green, proceed slowly. Look left and right beforeyou drive through the intersections.3.
Yellow lights mean proceed with caution, not speed up to get through the intersectionbefore the light turns red. Once you are in the middle of an intersection, a yellow light willgive you time to exit it safely.4.
Turning right at a red light is not permitted. Only turn with a green light.
If your going to pass a car, follow these rules:1.
Make sure that you have clear visibility and that you are permitted to pass another vehicle.2.
Be certain that there is no incoming traffic and the road ahead of you is clear.3.
Look at all mirrors carefully before you make a lane change.4.
Look behind you for any vehicles that might be trying to pass you. Be aware of any blindspots. Once the lane is clear, signal your intentions.5.
Move into the passing lane and accelerate—but staying within the speed limit—to pass thecar in front of you.
At night, never look directly at an approaching car’s headlights. Use the right edge of the pavementas a lane guide until the other car has passed.
Be aware of any potential road hazards. Watch for cars ahead of you that suddenly swerve fromtheir lanes to avoid pot holes, constructions barriers, or stalled vehicles.
