A Glance Back at the Semester Past
As I take the time to look back upon the semester and try to determine if I have met thegoals that I have established for myself as a student and as a academic writer in English 1101X.We used many techniques to create, critique and revise our work such as peer workshop, usingother texts to interpret our own text and various note taking strategies. The one thing that I have learned that will stick with me the most is as concrete and set aswe want writing to be, it isn't and will never be. I have learned that writing and the process of writing does not have a set way that it has to be done. At first I found this concept very hard toacquire. I am used to the fundamental way to write that I was taught all through grade school andthat is that you have a set guideline to write by. Which in all reality, according to Lu and Horner, doesn't exist because writing can't take place in a vacuum. Writing is a non-linear process thathas no defined way that it's supposed to go. Writing has no limits on how many times it can turnand change direction. I have learned that to be a successful writer your mind has to be open tochange and open to writing differently than the way you are used to.As for my goals and the goals I set for the class I feel that I have become what I wantedto be as a academic writer. I feel that I have become more open to using new and differentwriting styles and techniques and that I use them to my upmost advantage in the academicenvironment as well as any other.
