Falling pregnant as a teenager in Ireland in 1952, Philomena's baby was whisked away
by the orphanage nuns to America for adoption. Philomena (Judi Dench) spent the
next fifty years searching for him in vain. Along with a world-weary journalist (Steve
Coogan) she sets forth on a journey to discover the extraordinary story of her son.
Fri Feb 7: CAPTAIN PHILLIPS (M) 134mins
Tom Hanks stars in this true story of Captain Richard Phillips and the 2009 hijacking by
Somali pirates of the first American cargo ship to be hijacked in two hundred years.
The film is simultaneously a pulse-pounding thriller, and a complex portrait of the
myriad effects of globalization directed by Paul Greengrass (The Bourne Supremacy).

In the second installment of Peter Jackson's Hobbit trilogy, Bilbo (Martin Freeman),
Gandalf (Sir Ian McKellen) and the Dwarves continue their journey to the Lonely
Mountain where Bilbo must find the Secret Door that will give them access to
the hoard of the dragon Smaug (menacingly voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch).

The multi-award winning, (and nominated for 10 Oscars), true story of a brilliant
con man (Christian Bale) who, along with his equally cunning and seductive British
partner (Amy Adams), is forced to work for a wild FBI agent (Bradley Cooper).
Jennifer Lawrence co-stars and steals the movie.

Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) has returned home safely after winning the Hunger Games

around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a Victor's Tour of the
districts. Along the way, Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering.
Thur Feb 13: THE PAST (M) 130mins
Ahmad (Ali Mosaffa) returns to Paris from Tehran, at the request of his estranged
French wife Marie (The Artists Brnice Bejo). She wants to finalise their divorce so
she can marry her new boyfriend (Tahar Rahim). During his tense, brief stay, Ahmads
efforts to improve this relationship soon unveil a secret from their past. From the
director of A Separation.
Fri Feb 14 - Valentines Day: ROMEO + JULIET (M) 120mins
Although the leads - Leonardo DiCaprio and Clare Danes - are terrific, perhaps the
real star of the show here though is director Baz Luhrmann, who employs a frenetic,
at times downright-brilliant style. From the start, his take on Shakespeares tale of star-
crossed lovers explodes unpredictably onto the screen, bubbling with originality,
accompanied throughout by an excellent music score.
Sat Feb 15: THE RAILWAY MAN(M) 116mins
Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman star in the true story of Eric Lomax about a British soldier
in World War II, who endured gruelling conditions as a forced labourer on the Thailand
Death Railway after being captured by Japanese troops. Now, decades later, still haunted
by demons and sets out to find those responsible for his torture.
Sun Feb 16: MISTAKEN FOR STRANGERS (TBC) 92mins
In 2010, after ten years as critical darlings, the rock band The National was finally
enjoying wider recognition. As they were about to embark on the biggest tour of their
career, lead singer Matt Berninger invited his younger brother, Tom, to be a part of
their tour crew. A budding filmmaker and horror movie enthusiast, Tom brought
along his camera to film the experience. The film Tom finally produced is a hilarious
and touching look at two very different brothers, and an odd but strangely
moving portrait of a popular, nuanced band.

about a man (Robert Redford) who must fight for survival following a collision with a

Geoffrey Rush, Emily Watson and newcomer Sophie Nelisse star in this adaptation of
the Markus Zusak novel. It tells the story of Liesel, an extraordinary and courageous
young girl sent to live with a foster family in World War II Germany.

get his sugary hands on the literary property.
