Claire Lyall, UNISON Social Work Vice Convenor

We, the undersigned support Claire Lyalls appeal against dismissal by Social Work Services
on 9 July, confirmed by letter on 25 July 2014. We believe that Claire, a Community Worker
and UNISON Vice Convenor of the Glasgow Social Work Shop Stewards, has been unfairly
sacked by social work management. She was dismissed in her absence, at a hearing that
both her doctor and the councils own medical consultants had advised she was unfit to
attend.
The events which triggered the initial investigation wholly related to Claires duties as a
trade union representative. She was dismissed for a conduct matter whilst on sick leave.
UNISON believes this is highly unusual. Claire has nearly twenty years service with the
council during which time she has never been the subject of a complaint, investigation or
disciplinary action.
