HISTORY OF POP MUSIC VIDEOS

A music video is a short film (narrative) or video conforming a song and imagery for the artists
promotional and artistic purposes. Now a days modern music videos are usually made but also used
as a marketing strategy and device to promote and present the sale o music recordings.
Pop songs and videos first started playing in the 1970s.
MTV (Music Television) was the phenomenon that gave so much power and importance to the
music video. MTV started broadcasting in 1981 in the USA and it marked the beginning of the
music video's ruling over the music industry
Pop music charts did not exist until 1953, when the first top twenty was recorded. This is
when teenagers were really interested in pop music.
Pop music is a genre of popular music which originated in its modern form in the 1950s.
The first pop songs were recorded in the 1926.
The Beatles, Michael Jackson, The rolling stones etc were some of the most top and well
known names in history.
Early Pop Music:
In the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, commercial music was enjoyed by people.
Pop music was performed in the parlours of middle class homes by unpaid singers and
pianists.
The influence of American Jazz music led to the creation of British dance bands who
provided a social group and pop music began to dominate social occasions and radio.
Beginning of pop music:
Pop music is famous and popular on todays charts and this is a genre that includes a mix of
various other genre and styles which vary from jazz, country, rock, rap and hip-hop.
Sheet music is a printed music which is handwritten or printed in form of music notation
using musical symbols.
Pop music is mostly linked to sheet music as pop music is usually written and printed before
performed so put into a song.
Features of Pop Music:
The most important feature of pop music industry of the late 188

the amount of focus on form of sheet music.
Pop music is known and described to be extremely commercial friendly, marketable,
memorable and recognisable with the use of vocals, lyrics, instruments or a mixture of the
three which creates a choruses or verse that is captivating to the target audience. This is
created to keep them engaged and ensure that the chorus is unforgettable.
Pop music aims to create visual contents in response to the feature.
