RITTER ANNOUNCES 2010 HOMELAND SECURITY GRANT AMOUNTS Gov. Bill Ritter today announced the 2010 homeland security grant amounts thatwill be available to communities across Colorado,providing $26.6 million to fund projects that will improve the state's efforts toprepare for and respond to emergencies. More than 80 percent of the funds will go to counties and local jurisdictionsthroughout Colorado to support local first respondersand homeland security initiatives. The focus of the funds will be on preventing ordisrupting a terrorist attack; protecting communities,critical infrastructure, and key resources from a man-made or natural disaster;and responding to and recovering from any disaster.The Governor's Office of Homeland Security will guide the application processthroughout the next four months using risk-based funding formulas and acompetitive scoring process judging the quality of the projects submitted. State agencies and regional authorities will submit applications containingprojects for Homeland Security Grant Program (HSGP) funding to the Governor'sOffice of Homeland Security (GOHS). GOHS will then submit a state application tothe Department of Homeland Security (DHS) by April 19, 2010. The state application will be validated through a national peer review process byDHS, with grant awards to the state being made by summer of 2010. The projectfunding awards will be recommended by a Grant Review Committee consisting of
