Specifically, you requested a copy of the following document(s) be provided to me: Date, location, pre death medical care and cause of death of Peace Corps trainee Paul Blum, 65, on September 8, 2012. In response, you are being provided with a document providing public information regarding the death of PCT Paul Blum (1 page). Pre death medical care is exempt from disclosure and will be withheld pursuant to 5 U.S.C. 552(b)(6). Exemption 6 protects information about individuals in personnel and medical files and similar files when the disclosure of such information would constitute a clearly unwarranted invasion of personal privacy. Here, Exemption 6 protects the privacy interests of a decedents survivors with respect to sensitive circumstances surrounding an individuals death from public disclosure.
You may appeal the denial of information within 20 calendar days of your receipt of this letter. The appeal should be addressed to Garry W. Stanberry, Acting Associate Director Management, Peace Corps, 1111 20th Street NW, Washington, DC 20526. Your appeal must include the FOIA request number and a statement of the reason the withheld records should be made available and why the denial of the records was in error.
