Biographical Sketch:
Dr. Linda Morris lives on the Eastern Shore of Virginia, in a hamlet called Modest Town , which has beautiful
views and little traffic. She has three grown children who live in Novi , MI , Portland , ME and St. Louis , Mo.
She enjoys reading and traveling.
Education
Dr. Morris received a BA in History from Regis College in Weston Mass and served as a US Peace Corps
Volunteer in Cameroon . She earned an MS and Ed.D. in Adult and Continuing Education from Virginia
Polytechnic Institute (VPI), concentrating on adult learning and human resource development.
Professional Experiences
A specialist in integrating work, learning and knowledge to achieve strategic goals, Dr. Morris is experienced
with change processes and all types of learning media. Now a part-time faculty member in Virginia Tech's
Adult Learning Human Resource Development, she has served as an adjunct faculty member since 1997 and
was a visiting assistant professor at VA Tech in 2002 and at the George Washington University (GWU) in
2002-3. Since 2003 Dr. Morris has been adjunct faculty at GWU and the University of St. Francis, teaching
online and in Northern VA, Washington DC, Richmond, VA, the Hampton Roads area, Singapore and Hong
Kong.. Among the courses she teaches are Adult Learning, Foundations of HRD, Assessing the Impact of
HRD, Work Groups and Teams, Individual and Organizational Development, Consulting in Human
Systems, Philosophy of HRD, Knowledge Management and Towards a Knowledge Society. Her abiding
interest is adult development.
Dr. Morris has worked in human resource development since 1982 for professional services firms including
Ernst & Young (E&Y), American Management Systems (AMS), KPMG, and KSolutions, Inc. Her roles
ranged from being an internal consultant on learning design and alignment and an external consultant for
knowledge and change management and measurement. At E&Y, she started and built an internal HRD
education resource, pioneering what were then new approaches for learning in the workplace and computer-
based training. Her clients have included ARAMARK, Compaq, CSAM, Deutsche Bank, the Federal
Highway Administration, the Marine Corps Systems Command, Microsoft, NASA, Pfizer, and Korea
Telecom.
Dr. Morris became interested in creating and valuing learning organizations when she represented her
organization in MIT's Management in the 1990's program, a five-year $5M research consortium investigating
management impacts of technology and led a two - year process to determine metrics for valuing intellectual
capital and measuring organizational performance.
Since 2003 Dr. Morris has worked with NASA's Academy for Program, Project & Engineering Leadership
(APPEL). Recent projects have included revamping evaluation practices, establishing an approach to program
measurement, and analyzing needs analyses data.
Dr. Morris is a member of the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD) and the American
Association for Adult and Continuing Education (AAACE) and a fellow of the Royal Society for the
Encouragement of Arts, Manufacturers & Commerce (RSA). She is currently Director of the AAACE
Commission on Workforce and Professional Development and a member of the Board of Directors.
At ASTD she co-founded and led the Brain-Mind, Learning Organization, and Knowledge Management
Forums. Other ASTD contributions include serving on the Council of Networks, the National Research
Committee and the editorial board of Training and Development, as well as authoring a quarterly Training
and Development research column.
Dr. Morris frequently speaks and writes on a number of learning and development topics. Among her
