For organizations using Windows Server 2003 Active Directory infrastructure that require flexible support for directory-enabled applications. A central component of the Windows platform, Active Directory directory service provides the means to manage the identities and relationships that make up network environments. Windows Server 2003 makes Active Directory simpler to manage, easing migration and deployment. Active directory has been around since the release of Windows 2000 several years ago, and is now a standard sight in many offices. Its inclusion marked a radical change at the heart of the Windows Server platform, one that people are still adjusting to today.

Windows Server 2003 Active Directory directory service has a complete LDAPv3 support through Active Directory LDAP Compliance. LDAP is an acronym for Lightweight Directory Access Protocol; it is a simplified version of the X.500 protocol. The directory setup in this training manual will be later used for authentication. Nevertheless, LDAP can be used in numerous ways: authentication, shared directory (for mail clients), address book, etc.

SugarCRM is the market-leading, commercial Open Source customer relationship management (CRM) application. SugarCRM’s Open Source architecture easily adapts to any business environment by offering a more flexible, cost-effective alternative than proprietary applications. It offers a complete CRM system for businesses of all sizes. For a small business SugarCRM can be a huge time and expense saver. It requires minimal technical knowledge to get it installed and the built in web administration console and backup system allow you to feel comfortable that it’s going to keep running. Core SugarCRM functionality includes sales automation, marketing campaigns, support cases, project mgmt, calendaring and more. Built in PHP, supports MySQL, SQL Server and LDAP support allows it that cool functionality LAMP system.

Commercial open source pioneer SugarCRM is our top choice in CRM. Its trident of offerings – installed, hosted, and a good drop-in appliance – give IT the flexibility it needs, and the easy-to-use Ajax interface enhances user adoption. Users will also appreciate the offline client synchronization; integration with Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Word is enterprise-grade.

In this Hands-on Systems Integration Training Lab, we’re going undertake a step-by-step installation, configuration of Windows Server 2003 Active Directory DC. Next we install SugarCRM, which we then integrate with Win2k3 Active Directory. The integration of SugarCRM with Win2k3 AD gives the capability for Single-Sign-On (SSO), which allows you to use your AD login credentials to sign into SugarCRM. No more two logins!

This Hands-on lab project was demonstrated entirely using VMware, however, once you perfect the setup you can migrated them into physical servers if you so wish. You may also use Virtual PC, Sun VirtualBox, or Linux Xen instead of VMware for your pilot test setup.
