Abstract
In this thesis I give an overview over some instructive examples of rotatingspacetimes. The
van Stockum dust
, the
Gödel spacetime
and its stationaryand expanding generalizations are covered as well as the
Tipler cylinder
.A selection of measurable and observable effects is given along with sev-eral estimates of a possible global angular velocity of the universe based ondifferent arguments and sets of data. The estimates do not agree, and recentdata suggests that there is indeed no global rotation of the universe.
