1971-? 1980Built in 1971 as a shoppingcenter showplace by Schwartz Theatresof Dover, Delaware, the Blue Hen Mall
Cinema had a giant 60’ screen and
stadium seating. There were about 200seats on the main floor and the other1000 were all stadium. It had a cry roomas well as a separate deluxe skyboxseating (with bar) for special customers.The cry room and skybox had specialpiped in sound with its ownamplicification.The Blue Hen Mall itself waspassed by when the interstate moved.Competition from the better locatedDover Mall eventually forced the entireBlue Hen Mall itself to be converted intooffice space.The theater stopped showing
movies in the early 80’s after the
Schwartz chain was sold to Fox Theatresof Reading, Pennsylvania. The theateritself is still intact and is usedsporadically for concerts (usually countyand western).
