A Christmas Surprise
There are three little chipmunks that live in an oak tree in the yard of a family whoselast name is Rison. The Rison family has three children and a mom and dad. Theyalso have a dog named Darla. The chipmunks are afraid of the dog, but she never  bothers them. Since it is near Christmas, the chipmunks are thinking about what Santa will bringthem, and what presents they should get for their mom and dad.“I think we should get them some hickory nuts for Christmas dinner,” says Sam, theoldest of the three, who likes to help her mom make special recipes. (Oh, I forgot totell you that the chipmunk children have the same names as the Rison children! Isn’tthat amazing!?) “Well,” says Gracen, who loves to draw, “I think we should each make a beautiful picture on a leaf with some berry juice. We could sign our names on the back. Whatdo you think we should get for them, Wes?“I think we should get some leaves and put them in our nest to keep us all warm for the winter,” says Wes who likes to make little cars out of twigs. “These ideas are good ones,” says Sam. “Maybe we could do all three. What do youthink?” “Great! Yeah! O.K.!” shout Gracen and Wes. “Let’s keep our presents a surprise and give them to Mom and Dad Christmasmorning. When we get home from school tomorrow we’ll start. O.K.?” Sam asks. “O.K.!” the other two agree. The next afternoon, Mom Chipmunk asks their neighbor, Mr. Gray Squirrel, if he willkeep an eye on the children while she and Dad Chipmunk go to the local nut store for the week’s groceries.“Sure. I love staying with Sam, Gracie, and Wes,” smiles Mr. G. “I call them thethree chips”.
