DUBLIN CITY UNIVERSITYOFFICE OF STUDENT LIFE CONSTITUTION
1.The aim of the Office of Student Life is to promote the holisticdevelopment of all students through an appropriate balanceof curricular and co-curricular activities, while ensuring theprotection of students and the University against the misuseof capitation or other funds.2.The Office of Student Life shall promote and enhance thestudent experience outside the classroom by providingopportunities for student growth and development. The Officewill work with the University to complement the traditionalacademic mission, by supporting recognized clubs andsocieties and the StudentsUnion and by encouragingcreative learning and leadership development.3.The Office of Student Lifes’ main objectives are:3.1To support the academic mission of the University byproviding services and co-curricular experiences thatenhance student success.3.2To distribute in an efficient, fair and democratic mannerthe capitation funds among the Students’ Union, TheSocieties and Publications Committee and the SportsClubs Committee. The Office will also enforce rules foraccountability and control of funds, in line with bestpractice, which must be observed by officials of Clubs,Societies and the Students’ Union.3.3To promote the learning gained through participation inExtra Curricular activities.3.4To represent the interests of the Office of Student Lifeon other relevant University committees.3.5To employ staff as it deems appropriate to achieve itsobjectives.
 
4.The Student Life Executive shall comprise of:4.1One University representative appointed by thePresident of the University.4.2Two representatives of the StudentsUnion Executiveelected by the Executive on an annual basis.4.3One representative of the Union Council elected on anannual basis.4.4Two representatives of the Societies and PublicationsExecutive Committee elected by the Executive on anannual basis.4.5Two representatives of the Sports Clubs ExecutiveCommittee elected by the executive on an annual basis.4.6Two representatives elected from the general studentbody, at elections held at the same time as unionsabbatical elections.4.7The Manager of Student Life will be a non-votingmember, and will act as Secretary.4.8The Chairperson shall be elected on an annual basis bya show of hands.4.9A minute secretary may attend meetings of theExecutive.

 The Executive shall meet at least twice per Semester. Twoweeks notice shall be given of all such meetings. The quorumfor all meetings shall be a half plus one of voting members.5.1The first meeting shall be held as soon as possiblein the first Semester. Audited accounts of theSPC, SCC and Students’ Union for the previousfinancial year must be submitted at least sevendays prior to the date of the meeting.5.2The final meeting should be held to review the work of these committees during the year and to consider thebudget submissions from the Societies and Publications
 
Committee, the Sports Clubs Committee and theStudentsUnion for their proposed spending in thefollowing year.5.3One of these meetings shall be a planning and reviewexercise.

 The Chairperson of the Student Life Executive shall officiate atall meetings. It is their duty to ensure that aims of the arefulfilled and all business is dealt with in an efficient manner.In the event of a tie in voting the Chairperson shall have acasting vote.7.The Secretarys main functions will be the co-ordination of thework of the Executive, distribution of all relevant documents andnotices, and ensuring that decisions taken at meetings are carried out. They shall conduct the correspondence of the Executive and shall keepa record of it on file.8.The Office of Student Life Executive may form subcommittees, asit deems necessary. One of these shall be the EmploymentSubcommittee. Sub Committees may take advice fromexternal experts, as appointed by the Executive Committeefrom time to time.
8.1
 The Employment Subcommittee shall be elected fromthe Student Life Executive and should be no less thanthree and up to four members. It is desirable that theStudent Life Committee Chairperson, Students’ UnionPresident and one University representative bemembers. The Sub Committee will take advice from anexternal HR expert, as appointed by the Student LifeCommittee, where necessary. The Student LifeExecutive shall consider the recommendations of thesubcommittee.

 The financial year of the Office of Student Life shall be the 1
st
 July to the 30
th
June of the following year.10.Amendments to the Constitution of the Office of Student Lifeshall require the approval of two Union General Meetings held at leasta week apart.
