Jones, Cleaver Donaldson,Bernard’s older brother, played by Tyrell Edmonds, and his mother was portrayed by MariaSanchez (Robinson).“Bernard Holiday” was released on June 13, 1980 by Paramount Pictures, and went on tobecome a worldwide success, but in its first week when audiences saw the film, it only grossed$14 million, in the second week (June 20, 1980), it grossed to $60 million, and in its third week itgrossed $72.4 million, and in the last four weeks it grossed a total of $100 million. The film wassuch a success, Darryl recorded, write, produced and sung hits from the film which were up-tempo R&B/Pop ballads: “I Won’t Be Afraid”, “Dreams Come True (Everyday)”, “I Need to Closeto You”, “Just Love in the Air”, and “All My Loving”, all these songs in the soundtrack and in thefilm became a giant-worldwide success as well, the album, however was released on July 4,1980, selling more than 250 million copies worldwide, and it peaked on the Billboard 200 at #14.The film was very successful that it was nominated for four Academy Awards® in 1981 (AcademyAward® For Best Actor, Academy Award® for Best Actress, Academy Award® for Best Picture,Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor/Actress®), although the film did not win any, it becamea top-grossing film.
