Koh Samui Going Green with THAGIDOA, The Green Island Diving Association
Joining forces for the greater good of kohSamui and our surrounding beaches andreefs, this is the concept behind the GIDOA,working along side THA 12 main diver op-erators and snorkeling establishments havecome together with THA to combine ourforces, of professional divers and the man-power of the Hotels and resorts, to CreateGIDOA, Beach and reef adoption, with bimonthly beach clean ups, with support fromthe local Government with their trucks, localrescue services. Two seminar have been set up with theGreen Fins Organization, a NGO fromphuket, who help dive operators to watchtheir reefs and beaches, to ensure they arekept healthy. Its been over one year now, since THA, ThaiHotel association ( Southern chapter Eastcoast) on Koh Samui, began in earnest topush for a cleaner and greener koh Samui, with over 62 hotels, resorts registered withTHA.During this period many hotels have becomegreen, with Recycling at their own backdoors, some have even added garden plotsfor fresh produce, worm farming, catfish andfrog cultivation. The main objective has been to educate ourstaff to take care of their hotels first andtheir own homes, from here we are able tocreate a larger awareness program to kohSamui and Thailand by leading by example. Most THA hotels have seen the benefit fromthis worth while endeavor, to use the R,sReduce, Recycle and Reuse. Most establishments now can use the moneyfrom recycling to give back to the staff, interms of parties, shirts or items for their staffhouse.THA have more objectives in the monthsahead and into 2010 seasons, creating a lotmore awareness that koh Samui is goinggreen, is green and an Environmental havenfor our guests who visit Samui. There Is no future today unless we helpmother nature re create herself to her formerglory, if we abuse her more than we havenow, we wont have an Island or planet tolive on.Its not a game, its about protecting ourplanet and our future for our children's fu-ture.We need all your support for a GreenSamui and a Greener Planet.

YOUR MONTHLY, GREEN ISLAND UPDATE!
The Green Post

Why adopt a school, youmay say? its simple, in com-bining forces of THA hotelsand resorts with local schools, the Tessban have chosen 10schools for the initial 2009project with 15 more to belooked at for the 2010 cal-endar year.Combining our efforts to edu-cate the children of koh samuiin the three R,s as well aseducating their parents onthe importance of not throw-ing garbage away, but recy-cling what can be used. Two hotels will work on oneschool, for this project, brother one and brother 2,brother two will take a newschool next year, and brotherone will help them along.Certain areas of the schoolswould be handed over togarbage separation areas,Em production, small gardensfor herbs spices and flowers.Helping the schools to be selfsufficient and educating thechildren to take care of theirIsland and their country.Once these projects are setup in the next few months, acontinuation would then hap-pen and the children willreap the benefits by thethree R,s and assistance fromthe Tessaban to help themsell their garbage.More on this in the next issueof the Green post:A lot of work to be done toset up this project, due tohaving 10 schools under onebanner it was decided toshow all ten schools underone roof, a grand openingfrom 8:00am until 12 noon. All schools will be there toshow what they are doing,we expect GIDOA, samuiA historic day for the Tessbanand THA on Koh Samui, thegrandest day yet will arriveon the 15th June at the KohSamui school in Nathorn. This school has been be-friended by Six senses resortand spa as its “pi Liang”school, along with RegentChaweng and Melati.rescue, Samui dogs home, local dignitaries along withthe police, locals and tourist, fire brigade, various hospi-tals on the Islands.A speech from the Mayorand governor of koh samui.Games for the children, weexpect to have over 2,000people for this event.

not , this is not the point, theyare taking action for the mis-takes of others who throwtheir garbage from theirvans, or cars while drivinground. We should pat them on theback—the mistakes of othersactually turns into gold forthem, they can Reduce theI am not sure how many ofyou have seen, more localroad cleaners in all districtsof koh Samui.Well some of us have andmuch appreciated it is thatthe local Tessban is sendingpeople out.We are not sure if they areemployed by the Tessban orgarbage on the streets, theycan reuse and sell this gar-bage for their own future.Recycling is the name of thegame, china is one of theworlds major importer ofgarbage it cant get enoughof it.This is where we get mostgoods from today.
