Over the last decade, 36 countiesin south central, southwest andwest central Minnesota have ex-perienced a dynamic change withthe in-migration and settling of migrant workers. The number of minorities has nearly tripled in re-gional centers such as Albert Lea,Worthington and Marshall. Thisnew workforce requires additionalinvestment, support and training inrenewable and is the focus of theRenewable Energy Marketplace – Alliance for Talent Development(MNREM).What is MNREM? It’s a new con-sortium of industry, economicdevelopment and education lead-ers committed to transform-ing MNREM region from an ag-ricultural to a knowledge-basedeconomy. Funded by a $5 milliongrant from the U. S. DepartmentMNREM initiative will develop re-gional talent and businesses,boost innovation and capitalize onthe region’s strength: Renewablevalue-added agriculture, agri-bio-science and supporting industries.One MNREM strategy is to improvethe recruitment, credentialing andretention of workers. In March,MNREM awarded $2.5 partnershipsproposing innovative solutions forthe renewable energy industry.Funding will be used to test ideas,start projects current projects
