Despite the infrastructure provided inreligious literature to get over the problemsin life, there still lurk doubts among eventhose who hold to God’s feet, as why theyare being subjected to grief though theyoffer worship and prayers to God. Thesufferings and pleasures are related to thepast actions. People have to experience theconsequences. We adore the rose and enjoyits fragrance. But the rose comes with thethorns. If we want the rose we have to acceptthe thorns. It comes as a package.Adopting devotional exercises will certainlyenable us to gain moral strength. The grief will be mitigated. Seeking the company of the pious, devout and selfless people is oneof the methods of developing devotion. Thereason is that they don’t indulge in idlegossip. Their thoughts are always pinned toGod. They will not hanker after materialbenefits. As such, in their midst, we will alsobe acquiring the traits which make us eligibleto approach God. It is equally important tochoose friends who will be in a position togive us only genuine and proper guidance, when we need it badly. Friendship so secured, after due discrimination, should remaineverlasting like a treaty made in good faith. The best example is that of the rain water. It pours down on different surfaces of theearth but when dug out, it bears thecharacteristics of the soil through which itflowed. Human mind has the tendency tochange in accordance with the traits of companions. Keeping good company isessential for facing the currents bravely.

This is the one central idea in the Gita: work incessantly, but benot attached to it.
Intention
Swami Nachiketananda
There was a beautiful girl in a smallvillage. She always had to go to theforest to get firewood. One day whenshe was collecting firewood, fouryoungsters caught and tried tophysically assault her. She was boldand courageous and put up a fight butin front of four devils she was helpless. One passerby who was young, energetic and handsome saw thisoccurrence and fought with those guysand saved her life. She thanked thatgentleman for saving her life. Thenhe said "It is getting dark and my houseis nearby so come with me, spend thenight in my house and tomorrow I shalldrop you at your house". She had noother option than to accept hisproposal as it was getting dark and hervillage was quite far away. When they reached his house heoffered tea and asked her to take abath. He gave his clothes too. Whileshe was taking bath he prepareddinner. Then they both had dinnertogether. After dinner when it wastime to go to bed, he caught herhands and in a gentle voice asked herif she can share the bed with him. Shewas stunned and shocked. Thatmoment she felt that she had lost herinner strength. She felt as if somebodyis pouring hot oil in her ears. She feltthose are not the helping hands of asavior’s but the shackles which willcreate a permanent mark on her.Tears started rolling down her cheeks. The sameyoung girl whowas able tofight againstfour devils wasnot able tofight againstone devil. Inthat verymoment everything started flashing infront of her eyes and she rememberedhow her mother brought her up andshown the path of divinity…how shenurtured and shaped her while goingthrough the turmoil of life…how shestarved and fed her…how she used to tellthe stories of Ma Sita, Savitri and Kuntiand tried to infuse tender values…howshe taught her to fight againstcorruption, wrong act and gave her tighthugs whenever she was in distress…andtoday…?No matter how knowledgeable we are,we feel helpless in such situations. Actiondevoid of good intention will alwaysdamage the very purpose of life. Thereare people who can guide and mould if needed, but before that it is importantfor every human being to understand theintention. Situations are bound to bethere with or without good intentions.Hence it is time for the beautiful girlhidden in every human being to decidethe course of life, to reorganize innerstrength and thrash if it is wrong or acceptif it is right.

That wonderful poem, without one note in it, of weaknessor unmanliness.
Swami ShivanandamayiApplication of Gita
Gita Jayanthi is awonderful and auspiciousday in the history of Sanatana Dharma. Today isthe day when a new Veda,Panchama Veda has taken birth. Todayis the day when lord of the lords, SriKrishna imparted the Brahma Vidya, the Yoga shastra to Arjuna. So it was atrue Gita Jayanti in Arjuna’s life, that’swhy he had a glimpse of Vishwaroopa;that was the Gita Jayanti in Arjuna’slife but not in our life. What I feel personally is just byreading Bhagavad Gita hundreds andthousands of times and trying toanalyze, by having discussion for hourstogether on Bhagavad Gita, we canunderstand but we may not experienceBhagavad Gita. Understanding andexperiencing are two different aspects. When you experience Bhagavad Gitathat day will be the true Gita Jayanti inyour life.
How to experience Bhagavad Gita?
Sometimes you may feelattachments, relationships, responsibilities, family and society arethe few obstacles on the path of spirituality. But once you experienceBhagavad Gita, all the obstaclesbecome powerful tools on the path of spirituality.Bhagavad Gita is a Sanjeevani foreach and every individual in theuniverse. By following Bhagavad Gitaa warrior can learn the art of yuddha,a Bhakta can draw divine nectar, a Yogican find the way of Union with theSupreme soul, a Sanyasi can find truerenunciation, a Jnani can draw a trueknowledge, a house holder can bringbalance between family life andspiritual life etc… There are manystreams of Yoga given by Lord Krishnato the mankind. Bhagavad Gita is auniversal message and a timelesswisdom which helps us to cross thisocean of Samsara. When Arjuna wanted to escapefrom the Dharma Yuddha, JagadguruSri Krishna removed the clouds of ignorance from Arjuna’s mind bysinging the divine song of BrahmaVidya and made him experience theultimate spiritual reality of theBrahman. Bhagavad Gita or thisdivine song is going on in us constantly, but we are not paying attention to it.If you experience Bhagavad Gita youcan listen to that divine song. Toexperience Bhagavad Gita you neednot by-heart entire Bhagavd Gita.Take any one sloka which you like mostand practice it in your daily life, thenthe day will come when you canexperience entire Bhagavad Gita, likeSant Meera and Sant Tukaram. Thatday is a true Gita Jayanthi in your life. Then you will not only celebrate GitaJayanthi once in a year, but everymoment of your life. You canexperience that essence of Gita inevery breath of life. Jai Ma Gita, jaiMa Gita , Jai Ma Gita….

Infinite faith and strength are the only conditions of success.

Eternal Values
Whenever I am on the city roadscommuting, I can’t help notice the chaos, rashness, recklessness, and lack of chivalryspilling among the citizens of Hyderabadwhich is more or less a unit of India. Eachperson is looking out only for him/herself and walking in a daze. And what is with thesuicides in our state? Somewhere along thecourse of time Suicide superseded guns andknives as a weapon whose domain isexpanding every day from domestic toacademic, social and political fields. Lookingat all this one can’t help wonder as to whathappened to the tenets on which ourculture is based. Why is there a wide gapbetween what we can do and what we do,what we learn and what we apply, whatwe talk and what we deliver! We could find answers to our questions inthe teachings of Revered Srimat SwamiRanganathanandaji Maharaj. Swamiji wasborn on 15
th
December 1908 in Thrissur nearTrichur in Kerala. We pay a humble tributeto the “Great Karmayogi of the Modernage” by regurgitating his teachings from thefollowing excerpts from ‘My Life is My Work’published by Nachiketa Tapovan.“In fact, in all civilized societiesmore human beings of Sattvik typeare present. We have to treateven a criminal with somerespect….” “… We are very roughin dealing with other humanbeings. A little element of
Sattva
must come into our lives. Whenpeople think about this, they getthe impulse to change from
tamas
to rajas and from rajas to
sattva.
That is the importance of thisscience of three gunas…”“All culture is the product of discipline of the impulses; andculture is specifically a humanphenomenon…” “…A little gapbetween the input and output, even the most ordinary men have.Just put a little stop between inputand output. Suppose somebodyabuses me; immediately I abuseback. Don’t do so; that means youare an animal, an automaton aswe say…” "…If the action is oneunit the reaction can be ten units,or it can be no unit. You arehandling your own mind. You arecreating a sense of calmnesswithin. Great achievements willcome thereby.“Today if we want to develop ournation into a powerful one, weneed to change the mind of thepeople, make it a trained mind, nota stuffed brain.”
