GIBI Course- Essential Ingredients of the Anointing
Lesson 1Essential Ingredients of the Anointing
Everything that God anoints for His service requires special divinely inspired andrequired ingredients. We so often expect God to bless our many plans and all of our ministry efforts without stopping to ask ourselves: Do we have the rightessential ingredients added to the mix of our life to be properly anointed, appointed, and effectively used by Him? In the past before speaking at a public venue, I used to pray,
“Oh God, just useme and anoint me! Oh Lord, I just want to be used and anointed by you! Yes,God! Oh, Holy Spirit, anoint me!”
But no matter how much I prayed for God'swisdom and anointing, or how hard I worked at being anointed, somethingalways seemed to be missing. Finally I stumbled across Exodus 30:17-31, a very obscure passage in the Biblein which God begins to tell Moses exactly how to select, mix, and produceessential oils to be used to anoint and consecrate the tabernacle of His dwelling. To my surprise, right there in those verses, I found divinely prescribed essentialoils and spices. These specific ingredients would be mixed together to be usedfor divine sealing, consecrations, and Holy anointing!
Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying: "You shall also make a laver of bronze, with its base also of bronze, for washing. You shall put it between the tabernacleof meeting and the altar. And you shall put water in it, "for Aaron and his sonsshall wash their hands and their feet in water from it. "When they go into thetabernacle of meeting, or when they come near the altar to minister, to burn anoffering made by fire to the LORD, they shall wash with water, lest they die. “Sothey shall wash their hands and their feet, lest they die. And it shall be a statuteforever to them-- to him and his descendants throughout their generations." Moreover the LORD spoke to Moses, saying: "Also take for yourself quality spices-five hundred shekels of liquid myrrh, half as much sweet-smelling cinnamon (two hundred and fifty shekels), two hundred and fifty shekels of sweet-smelling cane, "five hundred shekels of cassia, according to the shekel of the sanctuary, and a hin of olive oil. "And you shall make from these a holy anointing oil, an ointment compounded according to the art of the perfumer. It shall be a holy anointing oil. "With it you shall anoint the tabernacle of meeting and the ark of the Testimony; "the table and all its utensils, the lampstand and its utensils

, and the altar of incense; "the altar of burnt offering with all itsutensils, and the laver and its base. "You shall consecrate them, that they may be most holy; whatever touches them must be holy. "And you shall anoint Aaronand his sons

, and consecrate them, that they may minister to Me as priests. "And you shall speak to the children of Israel, saying: 'This shall be a holy anointing oil to Me throughout your generations.Exodus 30:17-31

GIBI Course- Essential Ingredients of the Anointing
Reading these verses literally changed my prayer life and my approach to God. Isuddenly realized that no matter how much I cried and spoke in tongues, howmuch I yelled, shouted, shook and shuttered, no matter how much I preached, prayed, or prophesied, if the ingredients listed in these verses above were not akey essential ingredient in the anointing of my life, then I was probably acting outof emotionalism and not in the real anointing of God.Aaron and his sons the Lavitical priests were to wash themselves (in particular their hands and their feet) before they came near the tabernacle or approachedthe altar. God told Moses to use this special oil with these specific ingredients toanoint the various parts of the tabernacle as well as the priests.I want you to notice that these ingredients were very specific, exact in measureand weight, and the oil that was made by combining these ingredients could notbe used for any other purpose. This kind of anointing with holy oil is an illustration of the same kind of spiritualanointing that God still wants to pour out upon us and the Church to consecrateus and set us apart for His works and holy service today.
The Holy Anointing Oil Was Made from Five Essential ingredients:
1.) Myrrh2.) Cinnamon3.) Cane4.) Cassia5.) Olive oilBy studying out all five unique key oils of the anointing, we can see how eachingredient prescribed by the Lord can represent specific areas of our lives. Weneed the very same ingredients added to us, developed in us, and properlyprocessed in us, by the Lord so He can anoint us, equip us, consecrate us, anduse us as holy anointed vessels fit and ready for His service. This process helpsdevelop our character - our makeup – our spiritual DNA if you will.
*Myrrh
Myrrh is a necessary ingredient in embalming fluid; it is also used as a purifier. Inour walk with the Lord, we must be cleansed and purified from our sins. WhenGod delivers us, we must become dead to those sins. We need to become asdead as a body that has been embalmed, no longer able to respond to sinfulimpulses.
“Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts. And do not present your members as instrumentsof unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from thedead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God.
