A deranged killer escapes. A boy finds a lifeless man in the woods. So begins a story of lives at risk, of relationships imperiled, of identities destroyed and regained at terrible cost.
In the 1950‘s American community of Horizon Village, twelve-year-old Champ Garrett, his father often absent, becomes, in a sense, a father himself to a strange man with no past, until that past resurfaces and Champ is confronted with the devastating reality of the being he has come to believe he created.

“Just when one thought that the Frankenstein story had forever lapsed into low comedy turns, David Pabian has brought it back to life in a small, brilliant, heart-breaking masterpiece.”— Charles Simmons, author of Salt Water, The Belles Lettres, Powdered Eggs, Wrinkles.
“In Champ Garrett, David Pabian has created a wonderfully authentic 12-year-old character who has a thing or two to teach us about what it means to be alive. He's smart, thoughtful and so sympathetic that by the end of the book I thought of him as my own son. Leatherstone is an impressive debut, gripping, thrilling and poignant.”— Wendy Werris, author of An Alphabetical Life.
