THEORIES OF HUMAN DEVELOPMENT
Child development that occurs from birth to adulthood was largely ignored throughoutmuch of history. Children were often viewed simply as small versions of adults and littleattention was paid to the many advances in cognitive abilities, language usage, and physical growth. To a large extent, the study of human development is the study of child development, because the most significant changes take place from infancy through adolescence. Some important theories are:1-Psychoanalytic theories2-Cognitive theories3-behavioral & social cognitive theories4-Ethological theory5-Ecological theoryWe will discuss here psychoanalytic theories and cognitive theories.
PSYCHOANALYTIC THEORY:
According to psychoanalytic theories development depends primarily on unconsciousmind. Psychoanalytic theorists believe that behavior is merely a surface characteristicsand that to truly understand development we have to analyze the symbolic meanings of  behavior and the deep inner workings of mind.
