In 2006, Kentucky Baptist Fellowship began a partnership with the Protestant church in Morocco (Eglise Evan-
gelique au Maroc). The church in Morocco stands in the crossroads; it is pivotal geographically and culturally.
Truly, the EEAM has a unique opportunity to influ-
ence the nations through providing sound religious
discipleship to thousands of students from across
Africa who are studying in Morocco. Many of these
students will have major leadership roles in their
own nations upon their return.
Three years into the venture, our shared desire to
“build up hope” was realized as seventeen Kentuck-
ians traveled to Morocco for a music exchange with
twenty-four students representing the congregations
of the EEAM (known as the Voices United Choir).
The Kentucky Baptist Fellowship will take the Mo-
rocco Partnership to a new level in September 2010
through a “reverse” music exchange trip. Ten Sub-
Saharan African students who live in Morocco will
travel to Kentucky to join their voices with a Kentucky choir. This Voices United Choir will travel around the
Commonwealth, leading worship and educating our communities about Morocco in all six KBF Clusters.
Financial contributions are being made toward this unique experience by churches and individuals. If you or your church are interested in contributing or would like more information about Voices United 2010, please contact Joshua Speight at 502-426-1931 or josh@kybf.org.
Kentucky Baptist Fellowship is a proud partner of the Festival of Young Preachers, an initiative of The Acad- emy of Preachers (www.academyofpreachers.net). This 3-day event, hosted by St. Matthew’s Baptist Church, will offer young preachers from across the United States an opportunity to preach. The Festival is designed to showcase and encourage young people who aspire to be preachers of the Christian gospel. This is not a com- petition; at the final assembly, all young preachers who participated in the Festival will be formally inducted into the Academy of Preachers, and thus eligible for all institutional scholarships and also for both the summer Preaching Camp and the Certification Program, also initiatives of The Academy of Preachers.
In The Good News According to Jesus: A New Kind
of Christianity for a New Kind of Christian (published
by Smyth and Helwys), Chuck Queen, pastor of Im-
manuel Baptist Church in
Frankfort, invites readers
to consider what he con-
tends is a more inclusive,
gracious, and holistic
version of Christian faith
than is common in tradi-
tional Christianity. Queen
focuses mainly on the
Synoptic Gospels (Mat-
thew, Mark, and Luke).
Lisa Wood, Pastor to Chil-
dren and their Families at
Immanuel Baptist Church,
Frankfort, and graduate of
Baptist Seminary of Ken-
tucky, pictured left, recently
published her first children’s
book, Okay With Me.
The book was written as a
teaching tool to help parents open the dialogue with
their children and learn strategies for avoiding bully-
ing, familiar strangers, and inappropriate touching. It
is illustrated by Wood’s friend and fellow seminarian,
Trish Pelletier, pictured right, an illustrator and graph-
ic design artist who lives in Crestwood, KY.
