NOTE: Unless otherwise noted, the goals, objectives and policies contained in this element shallguide development on the Tallahassee Campus and the Panama City Campus.
Goal 1To establish and maintain a high level of quality in the design of landscape treatments on theUniversity campus.
 
Objective 1AEstablish a hierarchy for landscape treatment of vehicular circulation routes.Policy 1A-1
The main streets bordering the campus (Tennessee Street, Stadium Drive, Macomb Street, andGaines Street) shall have specific landscape treatments based on hierarchy of importance to campusentry, but they shall have as common elements the following characteristics (See Figure 16.1):a) a consistent street tree planting with designated trees and spacing.b) pedestrian walkways and/or bikeways along one or both sides.c) pedestrian crosswalks articulated at key intersections with special paving.d) the ground plane shall be predominantly sodded lawn areas with the exception of lowmaintenance groundcover at special intersections or entrances.e) Consideration shall be given for articulation of fine grading and mounding of landforms.f) Islands in the boulevards and side verges shall be bermed or sloped for aesthetic orfunctional purposes.

g) Signs and wayfinding information shall be coordinated with landscape treatment andlocation.
Policy 1A-2
 Gaines Street shall be developed as a ceremonial six-lane divided boulevard and a southerngateway to the University. Along both sides, there shall be a double row of formally spaced, largecanopy trees and a single row in the median. This pattern shall remain uninterrupted, except atintersections and significant view corridors. A bikeway and pedestrian walkway shall beaccommodated within the right-of-way (See Figure 16.2 (a)).
