Sheol and Hell are not the same thing. However, Sheol was regarded as a real place in the Old Testament. “Though they dig into Sheol, from there shall my hand take them; though they climb up to Heaven, from there I will bring them down.” Amos 9:2 RSV Sheol was the Old Testament Underworld or land of the dead which was believed to exist deep under the Earth.Amos 9:2 implies that Sheol is a place that is a long ay underground and far deeper than just a grave. Both the good and bad went to Sheol, except for a select few such as Enoch and Elijah who were taken up to Heaven in the Sky. Only in the last centuries before Christ was the Underworld believed to be subdivided into Abrahams Bosom,Gehenna (Hell)and the Abyss (Pit of fallen Angels)
