Indigenous Peoples present in the global climate challenges

Climate crisis aggravates and the Indigenous Peoples hold the knowledge, worldviews, experiences and proposals for
mitigation, adaptation, to slow and overcome the biggest threat for all life forms; the voice of the indigenous peoples can and
must be heard by the global actors. In this framework, it is a pleasure to greet the global indigenous leadership and express
that, based on the signed agreement between MINAM-COICA-AIDESEP of April 2014, a project, with the support of the
Norwegian government, is being implemented destined to promote the participation and proposals of the indigenous peoples
in the global climate processes through the spaces established in the Pavilion of the Indigenous Peoples in the COP20-
UNFCCC, whose descriptive synthesis we attach to the present.

Objective
The objective of the pavilion is to facilitate processes and spaces in the framework of the UNFCCC (United Nations Framework
Climate Change Convention) to enable the indigenous peoples of the world, especially in the case of the COP20, the hosts, the
indigenous peoples of the Amazon Basin, based on their worldviews and principles of management of their Territories, in
order to express their insights on climate crisis, develop and present their proposals and alternatives and to participate in the
specific negotiations of the Conference of the Parts (COP).

Indigenous Pavillion
The pavilion facilitates exhibition spaces in every visual and artistic format; and auditoriums and thematic panels for the
indigenous peoples, in the Venue as well as in the adjoining Voices for Climate area. The project is executed based on a specific
technical staff; the administration of the UNDP and in close coordination between COICA, MINAM and the UNDP.

Participation spaces
The indigenous pavilion comprises the following four spaces:
Venue:
Exhibition Area named Indigenous Full Life.
Spaces for the thematic panels on the COP20 themes.
Voices for Climate:
Exhibition Area named Indigenous Maloca.
Auditorium for the thematic climate panels named Peoples-Territories Auditorium.

Attached you will find a graphic summary regarding the Indigenous Pavilion (Annex 1) where four spaces of participation
have been established according to international regions: for the organizations of the Indigenous Peoples of the Amazon
(South American Basin); America and Arctic, Asia and Oceania; and Africa.

Call for proposals
In this framework and in close coordination with the host indigenous organizations of Peru, the Amazon and Abya Yala (Latin
America), whom are AIDESEP, COICA, CAOI, CICA, CCNAGUA and others, we fraternally invite the organizations of the
indigenous peoples to actively participate in the COP20 and in the Indigenous Pavilion. With the purpose of sharing these
spaces, we ask that the requests, to the extent possible, be processed and articulated through the indigenous organization of
national and international levels.

1. Alternatives in the global climate debate. Organize at least one thematic panel of 1.5 hours (90 minutes) that could be
held in any of the auditoriums, according to the requirements. These can be done inside the Venue if they approach
themes connected to the specific thematic of the UNFCCC and the COP20; and optionally, outside the venue, if these are

more ample themes on climate change and indigenous proposals. Due to organizational reasons, only proposals sent
according to the attached Annex 2 and until the November 05 2014, at 18:00 Lima time deadline, will be processed.
These should be addressed to the coordinators according to the regions and copied to Roberto Espinoza, Climate Advisor
of the Indigenous Pavilion.

Given the importance that the indigenous climate proposals be dialogued, agreed and attended by the global decision
makers, we recommend that said panels contemplate the participation and dialogue amongst the indigenous leaders,
governments, civil society, UN system, multilateral bodies, press, academy, companies, amongst others.

2. Communicational Dialogue of Knowledge. Select the communicational materials that your organization counts on, such
as photographs, maps and videos (no longer than 10 minutes long), that express the indigenous proposals on climate
crisis and that have the best exposition quality as possible.
Inform the Communications Coordinator, Segundo Chuquipiondo, schuquipiondo@gmail.com on said selection and
after the coordination and agreements of the case, set the remission of the submissions, so that this Project can evaluate
the possibility of assuming the dimension of the costs of:
Videos: subtitling in English, and if possible, to enhance the visual quality.
Photographs or maps: printing in exhibition size and quality.

Costs will be assumed only of videos, photography and maps, that have the required visual quality necessary; it is not
possible to assume costs of other materials (brochures, leaflets, posters and other similar materials). Authorships of each
indigenous organization stated will be included. The evaluation and selection of the sent materials will be held only for
those that are submitted until November 05, 20014, 18:00 Lima time.

3. All the Worldviews, All the Arts. We invite to state the disposition of holding artistic expressions (music, dance, singing,
poetry, theater, amongst others) of the indigenous peoples of your organization in the spaces of the indigenous pavilion
for a time lapse no longer than 10 minutes, in order to enable the expressions of other peoples. We ask you to write to
Segundo Chuquipiondo, schuquipiondo@gmail.com, filling out the information on the attached format (Annex 3). We
only offer to seek the space (auditorium and sound) for the representation and not the logistic costs that these may imply
(transportation, instruments, wardrobe and others). Only the requests submitted in the formats until the deadline:
November 05, 20014, 18:00 Lima time will be processed.
