JSC 09/021 The Legislation and Standards Manager briefed the Committee on forthcomingchanges to
Fire Safety legislation
in response to a query raised by theDistrict Organiser (ASLE&F). The changes related to sub-surface stations onlyand, in practice, do not change the way such stations are managed. TheCommittee noted that the changes have no effect on the way that fire safety ismanaged by South West Trains and Island Line. JSC 09/022 The Company Council Representative (ASLE&F) asked for an update onmodifications to the Class 455 fleet to provide
cab-cooling
and enquiredabout proposals for stock changes during the summer to use air-conditionedstock in place of stock that is not fitted with air-conditioning. The EngineeringDirector advised that although the trial fitment of cab cooling to a Class 455unit was successful, Porterbrook, the units’ owners, have indicated that similarmodifications across the 455 fleet do not meet their investment criteria. TheEngineering Director advised that SWT are still in discussions with Porterbrookto try to move this issue forward, however it is too late for any modifications totake effect by this summer.
