Heritage FestivalPrimary School Reunion
There have been over 300 registrations to date for theAvondale Primary School Reunion. Final preparationsare underway for this event.
Dates: 23 and 24 November 2007
The two walks arranged along Great North Road andSt Georges went very well. The first one had around15 in the group, and the second had around 30 or so (Ilost count after I’d counted 18 heads — then an biginflux of people arrived at the last minute). Havinglarge photos with me of past images of buildings andsites along the walk seemed to work very well, andthere were a number of questions asked.
St Ninians Church
Duncan Macdonald, a Society and Avondale Com-munity Board member, came up with an idea to put aproposal to Council for St Ninians, still closed to allusers, as a Heritage Centre/Museum. A conservationplan has been completed for the site by Council. The Society at their last meeting voted to express aninterest in what happens to the site, and that wewould like to have more information from Council.Right now, we can’t commit to anything without fullinformation which can be brought back to a meetingof the Society for a decision. I suppose, yet again —it’s “Watch this space”.
