The full moon was shining on the water in a silver glow. It was casting ashadow on a young girl who was walking along the shore of the lake. Shewas wearing a dressing gown that waved in the cool night breeze. As shewalked she hummed a little tune.Suddenly another figure appeared in the distance, silhouetted againstthe bright moon. As the girl approached the figure it started walking fasterand faster. She finally reached it, and in the moonlight, she could tell it wasan old woman. The woman looked to be about 80 years old, but the girlcouldn't tell. The woman spoke, her voice soft with age, “Are you a moonchild?”The little girl had no idea what a moon child was or is, but, as littlechildren are, she was curious. “What's a moon child?” She asked the oldwoman. The old woman sighed, apparently disappointed by the little girl notbeing a moon child, whatever that is. “A moon child is a being that appearsunder the full moon. It will then walk until it meets a person, but if it doesn'tmeet a person it will disappear at daybreak.“But it is said, that if a person meets a Moon Child, they will be able tosee an image of their one true love. I have been seeking to see a Moon Childfor 60 years, but have never found one. I long to see my one true love, to seewho it is that will love me until then end of my days.”The little girl looked at the old lady in amazement. Why would shewaste her whole life to find her one true love? The little girl asked her this. The old lady laughed, “You do not understand little girl; it doesn'tmatter how old I am or how long I wait, I will give anything to find out whomy one true love is.The little girl spoke, “You would rather wait until someone tells youwho you will love, than find out for yourself?”
