Treasurer’s ReportFiscal year May 2006-April 2007
One of the challenges of this fiscal year wasregularizing the reporting by Temple treasurers to theprovincial office. Because these reports were used not just to inform the Board and the members at large of how we were doing financially but also to report toCanada Revenue Agency and to claim GST rebatesthey needed to be provided. By the end of the fiscalyear all Temples were reporting fairly regularly. This is a simple cash-flow report as the data is notthere to do anything more elaborate:South Okanagan income $936.43, expenses$783.85, total $152.58. (Does not include income andexpenses for the Pagan Pride Day activities.)Nanaimo income $868.57, expenses $1212.72,total ($344.15). (Does not include income andexpenses for the Pagan Pride Day activities.)Vancouver-Burnaby income $1908.25, expenses$1730.70, total 177.55. (Includes expenses for the2006 Canadian National Pagan Conference plusdonations to cover travel and two weddings.)North Okanagan income $753.90, expenses$622.91, total $130.99.Provincial Office income $2552.36, expenses$2332.23, total $220.13. (Includes some expenses forthe Canadian National Pagan Conference as well astransfers of income from Vancouver-Burnaby and therepayment of the provincial office’ debt.)The total, of the monies reported to the Treasurer, gave a small surplus of $337.10 to carry over into the2007-8 fiscal year.At the end of the year the total accumulated debt/ surpluses were: South Okanagan $31.90; Nanaimo($364.13); Vancouver-Burnaby $20.72.; NorthOkanagan (550.19); Provincial Office $407.10.Respectfully Submitted,Samuel Wagar, Treasurer
Secretary Report (Summary) 2006-7General Notes
This year has seen a continued increase in thepublic profile and outreach of CWA and some verypositive developments in our relations with the outsideworld. The founding of the CWA-Alberta, our sisterorganization, assisted by our Secretary, outreach intothe Canadian national Pagan scenes through theCanadian National Pagan Conference and steadygrowth in the number of people that have been incontact with us are all positive signs. The efforts of our local Temples in their areas have resulted in agrowing awareness and presence for CWA in thePagan communities around the province and someinquiries from groups interested in consideringaffiliation. The year has, however, been marred by battlesover turf and internal differences typical of youngorganizations as they establish their leadership andsettle the norms of their conduct. If dealt with firmlyand fairly, with an eye to the health of the organizationas a whole, they need not cause lasting damage. Theunderlying strength of our vision and the value of ourservices to the BC Pagan communities will determineour success, if we keep our mission firmly in mind, not our egos.
Clergy
:Two clergy ceased to be authorized to performweddings this year- Teri Chartier of the defunct SilverBranch Temple in Abbotsford and Daniel vanKoughnett of the Temple of the Green Cauldron inNanaimo.Sally Kimber of Green Cauldron in Nanaimo wasauthorized. Sam Wagar (Vancouver-Burnaby), DianeMorrison (North Okanagan), Michael Zult (SouthOkanagan) continued to be authorized.Jason Currie (North Okanagan) was confirmed asordained and Anne Doré (Vancouver-Burnaby),Meredith Kimber, Craig Burnett and Kam Abbott(Nanaimo) were authorized to begin training towardordination. As of the AGM we had ten clergy members, fourof whom are authorized to perform marriages for us.We also have four clergy candidates. The CWABC isnot primarily in the business of training and licensingclergy and far too much time and energy this year hasbeen spent on clergy issues.
Weddings and other services
We had the honour and pleasure of performing tenweddings this year. There were also babies blessed inseveral Temples (numbers unknown), and a range of counselling and helping actions – particularly praise-worthy are the Outreaches in Nanaimo and Vernonwhich provided gifts of food and warm clothingcompassionately to homeless people.
Publications
Twelve issues of the church newsletter “Page of Pentacles” were published this year and distributedindividually to all of our members as well as in bundles
