In illo mpore: Exiitedíctum a CǽsareAugústo, utdescriberéturunivérsus orbis. Etpastóres erant in regióneeádem vigilántes, etcustodiéntes vigílias noctissuper gregem suum.
At that time there went out adecree from Caesar Augustus, thatthe whole world should beenrolled. This enrolling was firstmade by Cyrinus, the governor of Syria. And all went to be enrolled, every one into his own city. And Joseph also went up from Galileeout of the city of Nazareth, into Judea to the city of David, which iscalled Bethlehem: because he wasof the house and family of David, tobe enrolled with Mary his espousedwife, who was with child. And itcame to pass, that when they werethere, her days were accomplishedthat she should be delivered. Andshe brought forth her firstborn Son,and wrapped Him up in swaddlingclothes, and laid Him in a manger:because there was no room forthem in the inn. And there were inthe same country shepherdswatching and keeping the nightwatches over their flock. And beholdan Angel of the Lord stood by them, and the brightness of God shoneround about them, and they fearedwith a great fear. And the Angelsaid to them: Fear not; for behold Ibring you good tidings of great joy, that shall be to all the people: forthis day is born to you a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord, in the city of David. And this shall be a sign untoyou: you shall find the infantwrapped in swaddling clothes, andlaid in a manger. And suddenlythere was with the Angel amultitude of the heavenly army, praising God, and saying: Glory toGod in the highest, and on earthpeace to men of good will.
