SUMMARY

CHAPTER 1
Kino,a fisherman, lives in the a small
fishing village by the sea. He awakes to the
sound of he waves on the beach. He is
listening to the early morning sound, which
includes the song of the family. Juana, his
wife, prepares breakfast and sing to her
baby, Coyotito. After having breakfast, boh
kino and juana see a scorpion moving slowly
down the rope of the hanging baby’s box
(crib). The song of the evil, a savage and
dangerous melody and also the music of the
enemy, plays in Kino’s mind. The scorpions
fall into the baby box and stings Coyotito’s
before Kino can kill it. Juana try to suck the
poison from Coyotito’s shoulder.they decide
to take the baby to the doctor in the near by
town. All their neigbours follow. They want
to know if the doctor will treat Coyotito.
The doctor refuses to treat Coyotito because
Kino has no more money. Kino was angry.
 CHAPTER 2
Kino loves his old canoe and takes very
good care of it-it was given to him by his
father (who was inherited it from his own
father). Juana makes a polutice out of
seaweed and applies it to Coyotito’s swollen
shoulder. Kino takes Juana and Coyotito with
him n his conoe when he goes diving or
oyster. As Kino dives into a sea for oyster,
he hears the Song of the pearl That Might Be
in his head.he find the larger oyster lying in
isolated spot. Kino opens the oyster and
finds the great pearl,as large ‘a seagull’s
egg’ ,and as ‘perfect as the moon’. At time
Juana notices that the swelling on Coyotito’s
shoulder is goind down.kino scream out with
joy and the other fisherman rush to him.
 CHAPTER 3
News that kino has found the pearl of the
world travel fast around the town. Everyone
want to sell Kino some think or to ask, favours
from him. Kino plan to sell the great pearl and
dream of living a decends life. The priest
reminds Kino to give thank to God for his good
fortune. Kino hears ‘the music of the evil, of
the enemy’ faintly in his mind. That night the
doctors and his servant appear at Kino’s little
brush house to treat Coyotito. Kino does not
wellcome the doctor-he still angry-but doctor
frigtens him about Coyotito condition. The
doctor gives the baby a capsule that contains
white powder. He tells kino that the poison will
attack within the hour. He said that he will
back in an hour.later tht night, after the
doctors going home, the baby become very
sick. The doctor rush to treat Coyotito as soon
as he heard that the baby is ill but demand
payment from Kino. Kino believes that the
doctors make the baby sick, but he promise to
pay as soon he sells the pearl.the doctor offer
to keep the pearl for him but Kino refuses the
offer. That night, someones tries to steal the
pearl but Kino put up the a fight. The intruder
hits him on the head and run away. Juana
blames the pearl for the attack and ask Kino to
destroy the pearl or throw it back into sea.

CHAPTER 4
The whole town khow that Kino plant to sell
the pearl in the morning. Kino, Juana and
Coyotito dress up in the best clothes and
leaves to meet the pearl buyers their neigbour
join them on their walk to the town. Kino’s
brother,JuanTomas, walk with him to town but
warn him about being cheated a pearl buyer
offer Kino one thausand pesos for the pearl
this less than Kino expected. He feels the pearl
is worst at least fifty thausand pesos. The pearl
buyer decides to call three other pearl dealer
to inspect the pearl. Kino is very dissapointed
with their remarks and offer. Kino storm out of
the pearl buyer’s office. He believes the dealer
have plotted together not to offer him a good
price for the pearl.he says he will sell the the
pearl in the city. That night, Kino hide the pearl
under a stone near the fire in his hut.he feels
restlest and step outside the house. Kino is
attack again. Juana find his semi-conscious, his
clothes torn and wit a deep cut in his cheek
from ear to chin. He also has a cut on his scalp.
Juana is worried claim the pearls as evil. She
ask kino to throw away the pearl back into the
sea but again kino refuses to do so.

CHAPTER 5
 Just before dawn, Kino sense movement
near him in the darkness. He sees Juana
taking the pearl and heading toward the
show. Angrily, Kino follows her. When Juana
realize that Kino is behind her she run to the
sea and tries to throw the pearl away. Kino
hits her face and kick her side. He walk away
from her. Suddently, Kino is attack by the
third time by the unidentitied attacker, but
he kill the man Juana hide the body. Juana
and Kino decide to leaves at once for the
city in canoe. When Juana goes home to get
Coyotito, she discovered that the house had
been ransacked. While she in the house, the
intruders set the house on fire. Kino and
family go to Juan Tomas’s house. Later that
night, Kino and Juana start their jouney to
the cities in the north,where they hope to
sell the pearl. Juan Tomas lend kino a knife.
 CHAPTER 6
AS Kino and Juana travelto the north, they
make sure not leave any track behind them.
When Kino realizes that some trakers are
following them ,he no longger to cover his
track. He then tries to lead the tracker away,
but fail to do so. Kino and his family head
torwards the hight stone mauntain. Kino
persuade Juana to hide ina cave with
Coyotito.the trackers decide to rest near
where Juana and Coyotito hidden. Kino knows
he must kill them that night. One of the
trackers hears the cyy from Coyotito. He think
that is Coyote pup. He then shot toward the
sound before kino can grab the rifle. Kino kill
all the three trackers. The bullet from the rifles
kill Coyotito. Kino and Juana return to La Paz.
Kino carries the rifle whle Juana Coyotitobody
wrapped in her shawl.when he reachthe beach.
Kino throw the pearl far out into the sea as he
can.
