We're gonna tumn it up a notch.” ‘Question: "Can you comment on the recent rumors regarding the bringing back of he NWA name." Frey: "No. We're in the middle of that right now. AS ‘soon as we know, we'll let you know.” ‘Question: “Jushin Thunder Liger made 2 great impression on the fans here in the U.S. Will WCW continue to bring in some of the exciting wrestlers from Japani Frey: "We will not only be bringing in wrestling from Japan, but we're going to bring in the best wrestling from around the world. It only makes sense for us to bring in the best guys we can find.” Question: "Is WCW going to address the issue of regional territories drying up and possibly developing @ ‘minor league “feeder” system?” Frey: "Ican answer that by saying I've been on the job for about a week. No one has asked me about minor leagues, I'm still trying to focus about the major leagues. {As far as training talent and getting people into this business who are good athletes and good performers, yeah, it’s the heart of our business. That is going to be ur future. We'll continue to develop talent the best we can. | really don’t know right now about working as 2 territorial basis. (Dusty Rhodes then interjected that he felt down the toad there would be development of young talent in the territories as they reemerge and the possible development of young wrestlers in a minor league feeder system.) ‘Question: "What is your top priority.” Frey: "My top priority is to re-energize this company. ‘The company has always had a lot of talent. My problem right now is that, one, ve just started. Two, | work for a company with other athletic teams and our policy with steroids must be ‘consistent with the other athletes that we employ. And 0, I'm going to be working with the Hawks and Braves ‘and Jack Petrick and others to formulate our steroid policy. That Al does what we can to avoid and eliminate ‘the use of steroids, but B) treats our wrestling athletes in ‘@ manner consistent with other athletes within the ‘company. It’s a situation that is probably unique in ‘wrestling. We just have to take a broader look at it. It ‘would be unfair to impose something on certain athletes that aren’t imposed on the others. Can you imagine this match? WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH - Rick Flair VS......The Undertaker. That's right baby. In the weeks leading up to the match The Undertaker sees the light. He locks Paul Bearer in a casket, tucks the "good book" under his arm, and heads to Wrestlemania Vill. Think about it. The Undertaker seems to be becoming @ fan favorite anyway. Can you imagine @ capacity crowd at the Hoosier Dome waving foam rubber tombstones and sporting T-shirts that read, "UNDERTAKERMANIACS." Unbelievable! WHERE ARE THEY NOW BY VINCE RUSSO | recently interviewed two-time WWF ladies’ champion, Wendi Richter. Here’s what she had to s PRO WRESTLING SPOTLIGHT WEEKLY: "What made you decide to get into professional wrestling?” WENDI RICHTER: "I always loved wrestling. | played 2 lot of sports in high school and was on the volleyball and cross-country track teams. Wrestling just seemed like 2 rratural for me and | thought | would do very well. | was very strong because | used to break and train horses. | ‘would take 100 pound feed bags and throw them on my shoulders, "Wrestling is something that I loved... still love PWSW: “Where did you first wrestle professionally?” WR: "My first time was in Knoxville, Tennessee. | trained under the tutelage of Joyce Gable. She and | became tag team partners for two years before | went on to single matches. Between 1981 and 1982 1 was the U.S. champion in the NWA, and then | twice became ‘WWF champion.” PWSW: “In what year did you enter the WWF?" WR: 71984." PWSW: “Can you tell us how that came about?” WR: “Lou Albano was making all these claims that he had discovered Cyndi Lauper. He even went as far as to say that he was her manager and wrote the lyrics to her songs. This went on for a whole summer. Then “Gils ‘Just Want To Have Fun" came out, that was my favorite ‘song. People began informing Cyndi’s real manager that Lou Albano was making all these claims on talk shows. ‘So he, (David Wolfe, Cyndi’s manager) went on the talk shows and told Albano that his claims were false and that HE (David Wolfe) was her real manager. They (Albano and Wolfe) got into an argument. Cyndi then decided that she wanted to show Albano that she knew ‘more about wrestling than he did. She had always been a big wrestling fan.” PWSW: "Did Lou Albano personally know Cyndi Lauper at this point?” WR: "Yes. They sat together on an airplane to New York. That’s how he met her. She gave him an autograph. After that he started going on talk shows saying he was her manager.” PWSW: "How did you get involved in this?” WR: “She challenged him to a wrestling match. She wanted to show him that she knew more about wrestling than he thought he knew about Rock-n-Roll “He picked a wrestler of his choice (Moolah) and Cyndi picked me, This was a dream come true. | had been in ‘wrestling about four and one-half years, and I never got a title shot before. This was my chanc PWSW: “At that point had you ever met Cyndi Lauper before?” WR: "No, I never met her.” PWSW: ‘*When did that match with Moolah take place?” WR: “In 1984.1 won that match. After that | wrestled Leilani Kai, with Moolah acting as her manager. Moolah interfered in the match. She attacked Cyndi Lauper, and as | tried to help Cyndi, Moolah nailed me, and Leilani pinned me. Moolah hit me under the chin and just knocked me down. Wrestlemania followed and | recaptured the title.” PWSW: “When you became the WWF's Woman's ‘Champion, your popularity began to grow. Some people ‘were saying that you were becoming as popular as Hulk Hogan. lnsiders said that Vince McMahon Jr wasn’t happy with this. Is there any truth to that?” 'WR: "There may be some truth to it. felt that because | was a woman, Iwas kept down. | wasn’t happy about ies PWSW: “And you probably were outspoken about it, 100."
