Zz HITACHI MAN-B&W. No. : Hasp-B0503 == DIESEL ENGINE SERVICE DATA pars : 06-06-2005 Wear Limit of CPR Piston Ring ENGINE TYPE: 50-90MC/MC-C. As to the engines in use of CPR type top ring, the pressure difference between upper and lower space of top ring will become higher when the wear of top ring has progressed, that is, combustion gas release to the next lower space through the grooves on the outer surface of ring circle will be obstructed because such grooves have become shallower by wear. This higher gas pressure difference causes the higher contact surface pressure of piston ring on cylinder liner and, in some cases, it may lead to the abrasive wear on cylinder liner upper part. Accordingly, we have introduced in HZSD-B0215 that the depth of gas release groove is also to be checked at the time of piston ring inspection. On the other hand, the limit depth of the release groove has been described as 1 mm, in the instruction book of Volume II 902-1, for all CPR rings, irrelevant to engine type or cylinder bore size However, it seems to be unreasonable to adopt the same limit value to all rings those which are different in depth each other, so the limits of groove depth are changed and prescribed as shown in below table Consequently, we recommend to revise your instruction book and to replace our service news of HZSD-B0215 with this service data, and furthermore, to pay attention to observe this limit regulation at every ring inspection.
