The reason that this du’a if used for anything that your du’a will beanswered
Most of the ulema believe this ahlus-sunnah or otherwise ijmaaamong all the sects
Encompasess the beautiful names of Allah azza wa jal and his loftyattributes.
Last part of this du’a shows the reality of the situation
The repentor is acknowledging the reality of the situation that he isa wrongdoer
Not fitting any believer to free themselves of wrongdoer
Cannot declare ourselves to be free of wrongdoing
Especially when speaking with our Rubb
Two ahadeeth mentioned regarding this du’a in saheehayn
Ibn 'Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them, reported:Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) said: It is notproper for a slave that he should say: I am better than Yunus (Jonah) son of Matta (Matthew) is the name of hisfather.
It is related from Abu Hurayra that the Prophet, mayAllah bless him and grant him peace, said, "Whoever saysthat I am better than Yunus ibn Matta has lied."
The meaning of this hadith is not literal
The meaning is that he has no need to believe that he is awrongdoer
Yunus admitting that he was a wrongdoer even though he wasamong the best of the creation is a hujjah against the believers
Ibn Taymiyyah
Must have reliance hope and fear in Allah azza wa jal alone
An-naam 6:13 – And if Allâh touches you with harm, nonecan remove it but He, and if He touches you with good, thenHe is Able to do all things.
Sins are cause for the onset of harm and repenting removes itscauses
Anfal 8:33
– And Allâh would not punish them while you(Muhammad SAW) are amongst them, nor will He punishthem while they seek (Allâh's) Forgiveness.
Remorse is the first step of tawbah
They were shy to remove that harm being the last thing that theywould ask for as if they did not deserve having punishmentremoved
