What is Overall EquipmentEffectiveness (OEE)?
In an ideal factory, equipment would operate 100% ofthe time at 100% capacity, with an output of 100%good quality.

The difference between the ideal and the actualsituation is due to
losses
. Calculating the overallequipment effectiveness (OEE) rate is a crucialelement in any serious commitment to reducingequipment & process related wastes.
In real life, however, this situation is rare.

The key strategy towards improvingperformance is reducing equipment &process related losses. These losses are known as -
“THE SIX BIG LOSSES”
There are 3Majorcategories
1. Downtime Losses2. Speed Losses3. Defect Losses

Breakdowns

“ Sudden and unexpected equipment or processfailures. Could be a machine breakdown or perhaps amaterial failure or incorrect S.O.P.”
Changeovers
“ The time between the last pack of the old job andthe first good pack of the new. This includes all thetime spent adjusting and setting up the line to run.”
