In this article, bandwidth indicators are introduced as a management control tool for nonprofit organisations. The nature of monetary and other performance measures for cost and expense centres are explored for the purposes of management control. It is concluded that quantitative performance measures can be used as bandwidths instead of targets. In this way, the performance of cost and expense centres can be quantitatively controlled without interfering with quality. It is also shown that not only non-profit organisations adopt this approach, but also for-profit ventures can benefit.
