Paveway
TM
IV
Key Features and Benefits
UK Precision Guided Bomb. The world standard for precision guided munitions
.
Selectable Guidance
Paveway
TM
IV dynamically calculates a Launch Acceptability Region (LAR)  based upon target location, current release position and environmental conditions, together with target impact / heading constraints. Release cues are provided to the aircraft via MIL-STD-1760 messaging. After release, the weapon fly-out is optimised using innovative guidance techniques to maximise range (if required) while achieving programmed impact and heading angles at the target.
Proven Lethality
The Paveway
TM
IV lethal effects (Blast, Fragmentation and Penetration) utilising Height of Burst, impact and post-impact fuzing modes have been successfully proven through a complex series of Operational Evaluation Trials. The warhead has been designed to meet the latest UK Insensitive Munition(IM) requirements as recognised  by the UK Insensitive Munitions Assessment Panel (IMAP).
Increased Footprint
Paveway
TM
IV expands the  boundaries of traditional laser guided weapons and also exceeds the range of rival GPS guided  bombs. The enhanced launch zone increases both weapon effectiveness and platform survivability. The release envelope for Paveway
TM
IV includes low level, medium level and high level with loft or dive attacks.
Cost Effective and Low Collateral
Improved accuracy and selectable precision effects deliver a flexible solution at low cost. Target engagement can be  programmed to maximise lethal effects, thereby reducing the number of bombs on target. This flexibility provides capability against mobile, relocatable, soft and semi-hard targets. In addition, an innovative fuze arming approach has been implemented to improve arming reliability over existing methods, with arming delayed until just  before target engagement to minimise collateral damage.
Introduction
Paveway
TM
IV is the next generation guided weapon selected  by the UK Ministry of Defence for the Precision Guided Bomb (PGB)  programme. In an environment where time sensitive targeting remains fundamental to success, Paveway
TM
IV provides the ultimate in operational flexibility. The combat proven dual-mode guidance, together with Height of Burst and Penetrating capability in one weapon system, enables the decision of target engagement to be made right up to the point of release.
Combat Proven Technology
Paveway
TM
IV offers "expanded, flexible capability" to the Royal Air Force by delivering a weapon with increased stand-off range, improved GPS Anti-Jam  performance and selectable fuzing for airburst, impact and post impact warhead detonation. Paveway
TM
IV is now being successfully deployed with the RAF as part of Operation HERRICK. All modes of operation are combat proven, including the successful engagement of high-value moving targets.
