Themadrina de arras on the other hand is consisted of thirteen coins that represent Jesus andhis twelve apostles. These thirteen coins symbolize the sharing of finances between thenew couple. At the end of the ceremony, the couple may end the ceremony with a kiss toshow faithfulness to each other and the Lord. Many times, the godparents of the couple play an important part in the wedding ceremony. They even hold the wine glasses for thewedding toastduring the wedding reception.For African-American weddings, broom jumping is one of the most common weddingtraditions they have. This broom jumping started itself during the days of slaveryaccording to Harriette Cole. Since slaves during those days were not allowed to performlegal marriages, they created their own wedding rituals to honor their wedding unions.This broom jumping symbolizes the sweeping away of their old life and welcoming thenew. To simplify, this is a symbol of a new beginning. Nowadays, couples who want to include a specific wedding tradition to their weddingshould explain to their minister if it is included in the wedding ceremony or it should beexplained in the program since some of your guests may not be familiar with them.
