TV/VCR/StereoTroubleshooting- SonyProjection - changing hue andclicking noise
I have a Sony Projection TV KP53S70, manufactured 11-1999 and this has been a gradual problem. When watching something with red or green the hue will somewhat bounce between the two. There isalso a clicking sound coming from the back of the unit and you will see some green horizontal linesappear and disappear with the clicking sound.I have gone to the Sony web page and there is a recall on some sets but mine is not listed as a recalledunit. With the recall they change the CRT's but if I have to do that, do I change all of them or just one?I checked the self-diagnostic (blinking codes) and I had "1 - AKB".Thank you.
AKB is from 5 flashings of the standby lamp. Is your front panel light blinking? If so, here is what it says:"FIVE Blinks---AKB circuit (AKB), the timer/standby indicator blinks for about 30 seconds then goes tothe self-diagnosis function. Something is wrong with the video. Check video out, Q705, 732, 761 andother components on the C board, also check Q218, 219, 220 on the A board. Also unit be in IKblanking, try turning up screen slightly."In any event, if you are having a color instability I would suppose it is coming from the color and videoprocessing sections of the set. The dominant processor is called the Jungle chip, but there other areas, such as color drivers and matrix mixers and comb filters that could be the cause in addition to thetubes/guns.There may not be a recall on this set, but there could be a service bulletin. These are not given outpublicly, but the Sony technical people can tell you if there is one.The AKB is automatic kine bias which controls the levels going to the projection tubes, also. And this
