Addressing Georgia’s Critica Needs:
Georgia Perimeter College
Critica needs in Georgia incude increasing access to higher education, supporting economic growth, conserving resources andenerg, providing and retaining quait educators, and meeting thedemand or educated heathcare proessionas. Responding to these needs, Georgia Perimeter Coege pans to expand cassroomand aborator space beginning with its Dunwood Campus.Between now and the ear 2020, the north arc o metropoitanAtanta is projected to experience the argest higher educationpopuation growth. Wide acnowedged as one o the bestpaces to ive in Georgia, the Peachtree-Dunwood corridor, whichincudes the cit o Dunwood, is home to the argest number o corporate headquarters in metropoitan Atanta and aso has theargest concentration o medica and heathcare providers in thestate. Dunwood’s vita business environment, quait o ie, and the reputation o Georgia Perimeter Coege graduates are goodreasons to stud and ive there.Over the past three ears, Georgia Perimeter Coege hasexperienced unprecedented growth as more Georgian’s than ever have pursued higher education. With an enroment approaching25,000 students, Georgia Perimeter Coege is the third argestinstitution o higher education in the state o Georgia and with380,000 aumni is the major pathwa to higher education inGeorgia. This increased demand or higher education is critica or Georgia’s uture and is projected to continue beond 2020.In order to meet this increased demand, Georgia Perimeter Coege has creative expanded the course oerings and aciitiesutiization at a time o decreased unding. However, the use o existing resources has reached the tipping point where enromentgrowth wi be imited without new cassroom aciities and undingor instructiona technoog. Pans to support the increaseddemand or higher education on the Dunwood campus wi ocuson responding to Georgia’s most critica needs and supporting thearea’s demand or educated heathcare empoees, incuding dentahgienists and nurses, with the nowedge and sis the require.Envisioned in two phases, Georgia Perimeter Coege has panned two academic buidings and two paring decs, see fgure 1.1.These structures are designed to be environmenta riend with an emphasis on the use o mass transportation, waing, andbiing. The frst phase cas or a new 120,000 square eet, $28.6miion cassroom buiding with an improved egress to Womac and Ti Mi Roads. The Universit Sstem o Georgia and GeorgiaPerimeter Coege are current competing the design stage andwi be read to enter the construction stage ear in fsca ear 2011.Georgia Perimeter Coege is poised to better serve the growingnumber o students in the Dunwood and North Atanta servicearea b providing high needed educationa programs, advancing the sis o existing empoees, and supporting Atanta’s growingheathcare needs. Expansion o Georgia Perimeter Coege’saciities is critica in meeting the needs o Georgia’s citizens,businesses, and economic growth.
