TAKE THE LONG WAY
Dallas, Texas, Nov. 13 - 15, 20092 Loops
This ride begins on the west hal o thelarge loop. Leave out o Cleburne, ridethrough to Granbury and then head backsouth on Highway 67 to Glen Rose. Thesmall loop is out o Glen Rose throughDinosaur Valley and then returns up the67 to Glen Rose. Then, it’s back northon the 67 to the second hal o the largeloop through to Cleburne. You will have achance to visit Acton, the site where DaveyCrockett’s amily is buried. Also check outDinosaur Valley, the nice historic bridgeover the Brazos River and other scenicspots. The total trip is roughly 143 milesand takes about 2.5 hours. Food and gasare abundant on the route.
San Mateo, Calif., Nov. 20 - 22, 2009 Woodside and Portola Valley (Highway1, Skyline Boulevard)
This run has a little o everything — longast sweepers, tight, torturous and steepdownhill twisties, long highway stretchesand some smooth quick curves. BonnyDoon Road is a blast — well paved, goodcamber, and a gradual inclination up themountain. The transition to Pine Flat isnatural but looks wrong — just let theront wheel guide you. The sharp rightrom Empire Grade to Highway 236 cameup by surprise though, and or the rstquarter-mile we were sure we were onthe wrong road but could not nd a quickplace to turn around. We pretty much justused gravity going down this pockmarkedand steep road, letting second and thirddo most o the braking. Toward the bot-tom, the surace improved and we coulddrive the corners instead o ride aroundthem again. But the corners got snarky:the apexes became more triangular, anda couple o decreasing-radius curvespopped up in unexpected places. It wasslow through Big Basin, which was under-standable.

TAKE THE LONG WAY
Long Beach, Calif., Dec. 4 - 6, 2009Angeles Crest Highway (SR2),Big Tujunga Canyon Road
Angeles Crest Highway is likely the sport-bike capitol o the greater Los Angelesarea (i not all o Southern Caliornia). Asexpected, Angeles Crest has every sort o turn that makes sportbike riders salivate— sweepers, double apex, decreasingand increasing radii — all uphill or down-hill. As you might imagine, Angeles Crestmust be ridden within your limits. The rawnature o this road simply invites throttle-twisting like nothing else. It’s ar too easyto be “caught out” during a spirited ride.
Seattle, Wash., Dec. 11 - 13, 2009Around the Hood Canal
