Research Assistant 1
Will work on the project “The embodied social self”, financed by the PortugueseFoundation for Science and Technology (Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia –FCT, reference PTDC/PSI-PSO/098949/2008).The project will investigate how feelings of identity and social closeness to other peopleare related to mental representations of the human body. The project combines socialand cognitive psychological theories and methods. In particular, body image formationand imitation will be studied. The project consists of three series of experimental social-psychological laboratory studies.This project is supervised by Dr. Thomas Schubert, Dr. Beate Seibt, and Dr. SvenWaldzus (Centre for Social Research and Intervention), in collaboration with Dr. Maria-Paola Paladino and Dr. Francesco Pavani (University of Trento, Italy), and Prof. AlanFiske (University of California Los Angeles, USA).This contract is for 12 months, renewable until a maximum of 32 months, with anexpected starting date of the 1

of March 2010. According to the table of stipends of thePortuguese Foundation for Science and Technology, the stipend will amount to € 980(currently 1,420.25 USD) per month, netto, to which contribution to social security isadded.
Research Assistant 2 and Postdoctoral Researcher
Will both work on the project “The social costs of discrimination claims: Boundariesand consequences”, financed by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology(PTDC/PSI-PSO/098852/2008).The project has as general objective the examination of the social costs of discrimination claims, and it includes the study of the conditions that modify thesecosts, as well as their consequences. This project is supervised by Dr. Manuela Barreto(Centre for Social Research and Intervention) and Prof. Cheryl Kaiser (University of Washington), in collaboration with Prof. Jorge Vala (Institute of Social Sciences) andProf. Janet Swim (Pennsylvania State University).Both the research assistant and the postdoctoral researcher will participate inconceiving, planning, carrying out, and analysing experimental studies, and in writingscientific reports and articles. They will also participate in (national and international)conferences and in the organization of a scientific meeting to take place in Lisbon. Inthe case of good performance and motivation, the research assistant will be encouraged
