She then started using the terminology that they were ‘and she reiterated that she didn't want to "get involved”. It was clear to me that “intended to try to avold any type of association with Mr. Zimmerman that would possibly become public at a later time; leven i that meant not being an advocate for herself as a potential domestic violence victim. I then traveled to Mr, Zimmerman's residence of 1874 Valley Wood Way to attempt to make contact with him. After repeated knocks on the door, and attempts to call his known telephone numbers, no contact could be made with him. The broken wine bottle was found in the driveway of the residence; adjacent to the garage door. There ware no other signs of a disturbance at the residence, and no one else appeared to be home. A business card requesting contact was left on the front door. During this lime we could hear a television inside the residence, along with other noises that led us to believe that someone was home. After repeated knocking no one came to the door, but these nolses silenced; we could also see lights on inside the home from the side lwindows. Also, there was a very large dog inside that would bark at the door knocking. After some time the dog stopped barking tothe knocking; as if someone was silencing the dog inside. |since no one came to the door, | went to a next door neighbor's house to try to find out if they were familiar with the resident at !1874 Valley Wood Way. Also, other people In the neighborhood came up to the residence to see what was going on. An unknown ladult female approached me and said that she had a telephone number for Mr. Zimmerman, and she asked if | needed it. | indicated "yes, please” and she offered a phone number of 407-476-3363. I tried calling that number from my department cell phone and I left a message for Mr. Zimmerman to either come to the door, or lcall me back. After a short amount of time | began recelving calls from Mr. Don West (from telephone number 321-689-2997). Mr. |West indicated that he was Mr. Zimmerman's attorney, and he began to Inquire what the nature of the police investigation was at IMr. Zimmermans addross. | informed Mr. West multiple times that | would not elaborate details ofthis investigation over the Iphone, and that | needed to meet with Mr. Zimmerman personally. From the nature of the these telephone calls, and from what Mr. |West was telling me, it became obvious that Mr. Zimmerman was inside his home, aware of our presence, but reluctant to come outside, I continued to knock and announce our presence, as well as make phone calls to Mr. Zimmerman, to ask him to come to the door land speak with officers. This occurred from approximately 19:45 hours to about 21:30 hours. During this time officers would knock on the front door for a short period, and then back away to the sidewalk/roadway in order to give Mr. Zimmerman multiple lopportunities to comply. I was finally able to get a hold of Mr. Zimmerman via cell phone, and begin to explain our presence. Zimmerman indicated that he was romantically involved with the Victim, and that for some time she with lhim as a couple. When questioned about the Incident that occurred at his residence his responses indicated that he was familiar lwith the incident, IMr. Zimmerman denied having thrown a wine bottle at the Victim, nor breaking her cell phone. He stated that the Victim threw t lwine bottle up against the garage door herself. He also stated that the Victim's cell phone had been broken by her : [child long before this incident. Mr, Zimmerman could not offer any explanation as to why the Victim would make up such allegations to the police. Additionally, Mr. Zimmerman indicated that he was unaware of my attempts to contact him previously; ldespite that fact that I left business cards on his door requesting contact. |Based upon the investigation | came to the following conclusions: lDespite the Victims lack of cooperation, and lack of motivation to provide police with a detalled account of what happened, 1 do lbetieve that she was the victim of a aggravated assault (domestic violence related). Had the wine bottle actually struck her person, [she could have been injured severely. |The manner in which she was confronted by police, and her basic statement about what occurred, does not suggest that she |would have any time, or motive, to fabricate a story to the detriment of Mr. Zimmerman. [The Victim attempted to curtail her statement, and interaction with police, only once she realized that her disclosure of these levents may lead to further investigation, and (based upon Mr. Zimmerman's status of being a nationally known public figure) possible release of embarrassing Information to the public. |Additionally, Mr. Zimmerman's account of events holds little weight. Mr. Zimmerman has had a number of days to contemplate a response to these allegations, and also an opportunity to speak to the Vietim after her contact with police. This, combined with lattempts to avold interaction with police altogether, lends to the presumption that his testimony lacks credibility; and that he is liooking to minimize his potential exposure to law enforcement. The vehicle began to drive on Valley Wood Way and turned onto Grand Valley Drive. The \vehicle did not have any tall lights on and I do not believe the headlights were on. Towler and I went to 1874 Valley Wood Way to attempt to make contact with Mr. Zimmerman in| Ireference to an investigation. \Upon our arrival we attempted to make contact with Mr. Zimmerman. There were several lights on inside the home. 1 also heard noises from a TV, as well as other noises which would indicate that someone was home. There were indications that a dog was linside due to the occasional barking. Sgt. Towler knocked on the door several times. He also rang the doorbell which sounded. lAftor a short period of time, both the TV nolses and the barking dog coased. No one answered the door. [since there was no response, Sgt. Towler went to a neighbor's house to speak with them, While he was speaking with them, | [spoke with another neighbor to Inquire if they knew if Mr. Zimmerman was home to see if they knew what type of vehicle he drove, land if he kept it in the garage. The nelghbor stated that Mr. Zimmerman keeps a grey SUV type vehicle in the garage, but he was Inct aware ifhe was home or not. [Set. Towler was able to get a couple different phone numbers through his investigation. While he was on the phone, | made [several more attempts to have Mr. Zimmerman come to the door. | identified myself as a police officer with Lake Mary Police Department, but there were still no answer. We continued to knock for short periods and then retreat to the roadway to allow Mr. |Zimmarman ample time to comply. Sot. Towler was finally able to make contact with Mr. Zimmerman by phone. A short time after the initial contact, Mr. Zimmerman lexited the house. Sgt. Towler immediately advised him of his Miranda Rights from a preprinted card and then conversed with him. Mr. Zimmerman conversed freely with Sgt. Towler in the entry area of his home. Mr, Zimmerman indicated that he was romantically involved with the Vietim. He also stated that she was living with him for a fow Imonths. When questioned about the incident, he stated he was aware of what happened. IMr. Zimmerman denied throwing a wine bottle at the Victim, or breaking her cell phone. He stated that the Victim's cell phone had lbeen broken by her five year old child a year before this incident. Mr. Zimmerman was not sure why the Victim would make such a lclaim. After further conversation, Sgt. Towler went to the patrol car. Mr. Zimmerman talked to me about some paintings he did lsince he had some free time. He also spoke of his deg that he had trained in German and was certified by a local pet facility. |Upon Sgt. Towlers return, at 2134 hours, he placed Mr. Zimmerman into custody. He was handcuffed using two sets of handcufts. [They were double locked and checked for tightness. He was transported and booked at the Seminole County Jail.
